James Carmany Obituary

James Carmany Sr.
BLOOMINGTON - James J. Carmany Sr., 80, of Bloomington passed away at 1:28 a.m. Friday, November 18, 2016, at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, surrounded by family.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Historic St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Bloomington.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, November 21, 2016, at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, with a rosary service at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Knights of Columbus #574, Historic St. Patrick Catholic Church or St. Vincent de Paul Society, all in Bloomington.
Jim was born June 30, 1936, in Bloomington, the son of Walter Benjamin and Margaret Julia Tully Carmany. He married Judith Ann Freehill on February 1, 1958, in Bloomington. She preceded him in death on October 17, 2009.
He is survived by four children, Jim (Vickie) Carmany Jr. of East Peoria, Debbie (Terry) Monk of Dakota Dunes, SD, Dan Carmany of Normal and Cyndy Starkey of Bloomington; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Wall of Bloomington; many nieces and nephews; and his close friend, Joan Moews. Jim was a great husband and a loving father and was loved by all.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Katherine Schultz and Mary Jane Sutter.
Jim graduated from Trinity High School in 1954 and was a member of Historic St. Patrick Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #574 in Bloomington. He had a very long and successful career on the railroad working all across Illinois, retiring after over 40 years.
Jim was a very active volunteer across the twin cities for the last couple of decades. As a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, he was extremely happy to be able to celebrate their recent 2016 World Series win.
Jim was one of those special individuals who never knew a stranger. He always had a big smile on his face and would always reach out to provide any help or assistance anyone may need.
The family would like to express our sincere thanks to all of the staff of the Progressive Care Unit at Advocate Bromenn Medical Center in Normal, Illinois, for the care and comfort that all provided to him.
