CHUCK ROGERS Obituary

Chuck Rogers
2/5/1945-3/16/2018
Teacher and Football Coach

It is with great sadness that the family of Charles Francis Rogers, Jr., announces his passing at age 73, after a courageous battle with cancer. Chuck passed away at his home in Auburn, Calif on Friday, March 16, 2018. He was born on February 5, 1945 in Bloomington, Illinois to Charles Francis Rogers, Sr. and Marie (Neylon) Rogers.
Chuck's family moved to Orange County in Southern California when he was a young boy. He graduated from Mater Dei High School and went on to San Jose State University where he received a scholarship in football. Chuck had the distinct honor and privilege to be the first person in his family to attend college.
Upon graduating from college, Chuck became a High School Physical Education teacher and Football coach in the Silicon Valley where he coached and taught for 36 years. His career began at Monta Vista High School in the Fremont Union High School District in 1969 as a PE Teacher and Assistant Varsity Football Coach, and continued until 1975. He then moved to Cupertino High School from 1975 to 1991 where he was the PE Department Chair (1986-1991), and Head Football Coach (1975-1986). He was especially proud of the 1983 team that won the De Anza Athletic League Championship which was the first in the history of Cupertino H.S. Chuck finished his career at Lynbrook High School (1991-2005) as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. In 2002, while at LHS, Chuck was honored to be named "Teacher of the Year."
Upon retiring, Chuck moved to Auburn, Calif. to be closer to his children and their families. He was extremely active in the Auburn Host Lions Club and their High School Scholarship program.
Chuck will be lovingly remembered by his Fiancée Carol Helsby of Auburn and his children, Tracy Rogers of Sacramento; Daryl (Monica) Rogers of Newcastle; Carrie (David) Roarty of Roseville; and Joel (Shannon) Rogers of Lincoln; a sister, Lois Merwede of Everett, WA; and a brother, Mike (Diane) Rogers of San Clemente. He is also lovingly remembered by his stepchildren Natalie (Derek) Anderson, Jeff (Kate) Tweddale, and Amy (Dave) Martin. He will be dearly missed by his 15 grandchildren: Colin, Ryan, Peyton, Charlie, Kylee, Cole, Benning, Joel, Olivia, Dominick, Sophia, Chandler, Evan, Betsy, and Eli. Some of his greatest memories were of watching them play sports.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 11610 Atwood Road, Auburn. A Celebration of Life will follow at the same location. Inurnment will be private.

Sending sincere sympathy from our entire family to Chuck and Carol's families in their loss. Though I didn't know Chuck well, he was a cherished friend and golfing buddy of my late husband, Paul. And Chuck's finance, Carol, is a dear friend of mine for many years, and told me, Chuck is the nicest man she's ever known. After reading Chuck's obituary, I wish I had know such an enthusiastic, kind, gentleman who touched so many with his bright light and love of life. Many will miss his loving presence and genuine goodness.

Sincerely,

Diane Murphy & Family
