Elizabeth Reid Obituary

Published by Clovis News Journal and the Portales News-Tribune on Aug. 22, 2010.
Long time Clovis resident, Elizabeth Reid, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2010, at her residence in Media, PA. Beth was born in Belton, MO, on December 11, 1921. She married her Belton High School sweetheart on January 31, 1942. During WWII, Beth worked in a Pratt-Whitney Aircraft Engine plant near Kansas City and Allen was one of the AAC's Flying Sergeants. After the war, the couple returned to Belton where sons Paul and Carl were born. The family moved to Clovis in 1958, where they were active in the community and in particular the Christian Education programs of the Central Christian Church. As her son Carl, Beth was a career employee of the New Mexico Division of the then Santa Fe Railroad. When her son Paul moved to Pennsylvania, Beth did the same and in 1998 purchased a home in a retirement community boardering his residence. Beth was a talented musician, a woman of faith and a member of the Eastern Star.
She was predeceased by her parents, Roy and Beulah Johnston of Belton; her brother, Bruce of Kansas City and her husband, Allen of Clovis.
She is survived by her sons, Carl of Clovis and Paul and daughter-in-law, Cheryl of Lakewood, Pennsylvania. Also surviving Beth are grandaughters, Amy (Reid) Marchut and grandson-in-law, Ted of San Marcos, Texas, and Christine (Reid) Hayes and grandson-in-law, LTC. Timothy Hayes and great-grandchildren, Judson and Alexandra Hayes, all of Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. Beth is also remembered by her lifelong friend and sister-in-law, Wilma Johnston and many nieces and nephews.
Beth will be interred in the Lawn Haven cemetery in Clovis. The service will be private for the family only. The family requests that in lieu of card and flowers that memorial gifts be made to the Central Christian Church of Clovis.
