Henry Dowdell

Henry Lee Dowdell, age 78, passed on July 13, 2016. Born on April 30, 2016, in Opelika, AL. He graduated from J.W. Darden High School Class of 1955. He was a member of Van Buren Baptist Church and retired from US Steel Corp., 210 Plate Mill. Henry loved spending time with family and friends. His hobbies were taking pictures and listening to music. He married Vivian Bellamy from Phenix City, AL, in 1961, and they became residents of Gary, IN. From this union, two sons were born, Marcus L. Dowdell and Charles Dowdell, who both preceded him in death. Henry leaves to cherish fond memories: his wife of 55 years, Vivian Dowdell; daughter-in-law, Maritza Dowdell; grandson, Marcus L. Dowdell, Jr.; four sisters: Mae Rose Lockhart, Ludie Pearl Love, Iola Kimbrough, and Lela Dowdell; brother, Bobby Lee Dowdell, Jr.; and a host of relatives, friends, and co-workers. Visitation: Friday, July 22, 2016, from 12 to 8pm, at the Guy & Allen Chapel. Funeral services: Saturday, July 23, 2016, at 10:00am, at Van Buren Baptist Church, 2585 Van Buren St., Gary, IN. Rev. Dwight Mobley, Pastor. Interment: Evergreen Memorial Park.
