Joe Bates Obituary

Joe Ella Bates "Honey" was born January 1930 in Canton, Mississippi to the late Harvey and Willie Ella Bates. Joe Ella Bates departed this life on March 4, 2016. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was a homemaker and a caregiver. She was the matriarch and the family historian. Joe Ella was a member of Saint Andrew A.M.E. Zion church in Gary, Indiana. She is preceded in death by her parents, the late Harvey Bates Sr. and Willie Ella Bates, three loving brothers (Harvey "Mose" Bates Jr, David "Billy" Bates, and William Bates), one sister (Estelle Coleman), and one sister-in-law Eunice Bates. All Services will be held at St. Andrew A.M.E. Zion Church 749 Chase Street Gary Indiana on Friday, March 11, 2016. Visitation from 9am-11am and funeral services starting at 11am. Officiating Pastor Steven D. Floyd Senior. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery
