Robert G. Brown, Retired Gary Educator, Dies at 92 Robert G. Brown, our beloved and teacher of many, made his transition early Friday morning November 18, 2016 at 1:01 a.m. Robert G. Brown was born to Fred D. Brown Sr. and Beulah Brown (nee) Byrd in Canton, Georgia - August 8, 1924; Robert was the 4th of 14th children. He attended and graduated with honors from the Tuskegee Institute. He served with distinction in World War II, was a member of the historically significant, Buffalo Solider 92nd Infantry Division, and was awarded the American Theater Ribbon; EAME Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars; Good Conduct Ribbon; World War II Victory Medal; and the Purple Heart. He also, attended the University of Chicago and Purdue University, West Lafayette earning two master's degrees (Mathematics and Public Administration)-graduating cum laude. After teaching on the south side of Chicago he moved to Gary, Indiana where he was employed for over 40 years with the Gary School Corporation as a teacher, personnel administrator, and domestic recruiter. Mr. Brown was a favorite principal at Bailly Middle School, Beckman Middle School, West Side High School, and retired from his last assignment at Tolleston Middle School, located in his own neighborhood. Robert G. Brown was an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, serving by setting up educational endowments. Living his life as a testament to Christ, Robert was a faithful member of Saint Augustine's Episcopal Church, where he served as a leader on the Vestry for many years. He is survived by wife, Edna S. Brown; sons, Carter W. and Fredrick D. (Judy H.) Brown of Gary, Indiana; grandson, Fredrick A. Brown of Los Angeles, California; granddaughter, Juliet H. Brown of Chicago, Illinois; two sisters, Anna B Davenport of Atlanta, Georgia; and Rebecca N Montaque of Mount Laurel, New Jersey; godchildren, Michael Strowhorn, Carlton Woods, and Krista Hambrick, and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and eleven brothers and sisters and daughter Andrea Brown-Charles. Visitation Sunday November 27, 2016 from 12-8:00 p.m. Family hours 6-8:00 p.m. at the Guy & Allen Chapel. Funeral service Monday, November 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church 2425 W. 19th Ave. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
