Virginia D. Simmons age 87. In 1946, the Dodson family settled in Gary, IN. She received her secondary education in the Gary Public Schools and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School 1948. Virginia worked as a salesperson for Nell's Jr. Boot Shop and Hudson's in Gary Indiana. Virginia was a faithful member of Van Buren Baptist Church. Virginia suddenly fell ill and passed away on August 30, 2016. Preceded in death by her husband, Norris E. Simmons, parents, Harry and Myrtle Dodson and brother, Charles E. Brinkley. Virginia also leaves behind 6 children, Janet Hamilton, Ronald Simmons, Ralph (Vicki Carolin) Simmons, Melvin Simmons, Gary Simmons and Kenneth Simmons; 2 granddaughters; Virginia Hamilton and Aupenda-Angelique Simmons; 2 great granddaughters, Amber (Alan) Haney, Britanie Haney and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation Tuesday, September 6, 2016 from 9-10:00a.m. Family hour 10:00-11:00a.m. Funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. all services at Van Buren Baptist Church 2585 Van Buren St. Interment Evergreen Cemetery
