Yvonne Anderson

1934 - 2016

Yvonne Anderson, age 81, made a peaceful departure on May 8, 2016. Yvonne was born July 10, 1934 to Henry L. and Mary L. Smith in Whitman, West Virginia. She attended Aracoma High School in Logan, WV and remained an active alumnus until her passing. Yvonne was the eldest of nine siblings and moved to Gary, IN in 1953. In early years, she worked at Cook County Hospital and clinics and later held roles in several volunteer and neighborhood development organizations such as the AmeriCorps Vista program and Hmanio, Inc. She was a cherished member of the SS Monica & Luke Parish of Gary and Parish Alter Guild for more than 50 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, Gerald J. Anderson and sisters Helen Smith Givens and Mary L. Smith (Peggy). She leaves to celebrate her life and memories: 3 sisters Barbara Foster of Gary, IN, Vera (Henry) Pryor of Munford, TN and Nancy (Kevin) Farr of Indianapolis, IN. 3 brothers Henry (Odell) Smith of Orlando, FL, Leroy (Jamesetta) Smith of Hot Springs, AR and Charles Smith of Pahrump, NV. She will be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, devoted goddaughter, Jeanette Springer, special niece Tanya Quiroz, beloved pet "Chico" and many close friends and classmates. Visitation Friday, May 13, 2016 from 12 to 8:00 p.m. at the Guy & Allen Chapel, 2959 W. 11th Ave. Funeral services Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. SS Monica-Luke Church, 645 Rhode Island St. Interment Fern Oaks Cemetery.
