Gertrude Adams

Gertrude C. Adams, age 84 made her transition on Tuesday October 25, 2016. Born September 19, 1932 in Nashville, Arkansas, she graduated from Clow High School and thereafter, migrated to Gary, Indiana. She worked at Bayer Brand and attended Indiana University Northwest. However, her primary focus was wife and homemaker. She has been a long standing member at First A.M.E. Church and has served on the Usher Board and other service committees. Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents Silas and Wadie Mentha Whitmore, her husband Roy Adams, sisters Ivy Briggs, Eleanor Giron, Geraldine Stuart, Velma Whitmore, Mary Gamble, Gean Whitmore and Jacquelyn Whitmore. She is survived by children Peggy Middleton (Harvey) of Tampa, FL, Jeffrey Adams of Gary, IN, Tracey Adams of South Holland, IL, Asmera Smith of Tuskegee, AL and Ebonee Soldner of Huntsville, AL; siblings Silas Whitmore, Janet Coulter, Paul Whitmore, Wadie Spencer, Donald Whitmore and Patricia Whitmore-Farmer. Visitation 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. Thursday November 3, 2016 with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. both at First A.M.E. Church 2045 Massachusetts Street. Interment Rigelawn Cemetery.
