I was deeply sadden to hear this tragic news. I sat across from Lanel doing my radio show at WGVE...he was always so encouraging, graceful, and the ultimate gentleman...he will be missed.

I want to first send my deepest condolences to the Chambers and Staples families.Lanel was a kindergarten chum of mine,, fellow class of Velt 69,, as much as a dear friend.I'm at a loss for words! I meet Mr. Chambers 10 years ago at wgve through Precious Paul. Mr. Chambers was a very nice soft spoken man with a warm sprit. He will be greatly missed in the community. I enjoyed conversation with Mr. C when I would go up to the station and visit with Paul during his show . My condolences to his friends and family.

Lanel will be missed. It brought tears to not hear his voice on the Radio. I kept waiting to hear him announce the Gary School Board Meeting. All day Saturday I waited to hear his voice announce the names of the Gospels being played. Missing him, Missing his distinct voice even more.

Lanel-Lanel, I miss you so. You'd stop by my office EVERY Friday. It's hard to believe. But I will pull from the happy memories whenever I feel saddened or miss you. Such a sweet man. Never staying still, moving while talking and smile never seemed to disappear. We will meet again one day. Love & prayers to the family & fiancé.

To the family and friends of one of my best friends Lanel Chambers, I've known Lanel since before we started kindergarten at Douglas school. We attended St.Augustine's Episcopal church and graduated from Horace Mann High school in 1969. I will always remember the good times we had as kids and will cherish our friendship forever. To the family and friends of Lanel Chambers,
I'd like to express my condolence in regards to your loss. Lanel was such a wonderful friend to me when I was living in Gary over 25 years ago. He was very helpful in critiquing my exit papers when I was working on my master's at Indiana University. He was a really good friend that I lost contact with when I relocated to Georgia, but his beautiful spirit is a memory that I will always cherish.
