Joseph Barsic Obituary

Joseph E. Barsic "Mr. B" passed too soon and too suddenly from a purposeful life on July 16, 2015 at his residence, with his loving wife at his side. Joe was born on September 5, 1948 in East Chicago to the late Peter and Rose (Haryasz) Barsic. Also preceding him in death are his siblings, Peter (Mary) Barsic Jr.; Richard (Maryann) Barsic, Dolores (Edward) Oboy, and Gregory Barsic. On April 7, 1973, he married his wife of 42 years, Nancy (Kolish) Barsic, who survives. Also left to cherish his memory are his children, Heidi Barsic-Bates (Steven Schmidtendorff) and Joseph Peter Barsic (Breanon Maldonado), grandchildren, Chloe Bates and Michael Bates and two extended grandchildren, Odin Giese and Tiffany Schmidtendorff. Mr. Barsic was devoted to his profession and teaching others. He was the Executive Director of Success School of Barbering in Merrillville and Chicago. He obtained his barber license in 1966 at Twin City Barber College in East Chicago, where he later purchased the school and taught. He had a personal relationship with his students, mentoring them, and helping them achieve their own careers, and maintained his relationships over years. He served on the Indiana Barber Board, National Barber Boards of America, and member of Barbers International. He selflessly served the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Crown Point, Indiana. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and a 32nd degree Mason of the Garfield Lodge #569 of Highland. Mostly, Joe was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and a friend to many. Visitation will be Sunday, July 19, 2015 from 2-7 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 S. Cline Ave; Schererville, Indiana 46375). Funeral services will be Monday, July 20, 2015 at 11:00 am at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home with Fr. Patrick J. Kalich and Sr. Marie Schutz officiating. I had the honor of meeting Mr.B in 2009 as a student in his barber school. He was more than a barber, he was great person with a big heart. If B knew you were trying and coming to school you didn't have a problem. Once you started slacking Mr.B would let you know. He kept me on track with that little kick in the butt once and awhile if I needed it. He was funny and could tell a great story and I feel privileged to have met such a great person in my life. My condolences to the entire Barsic family on your loss. They don't make'em like Mr.B anymore, he will be missed
