David (Dave) Leonard Riess, of Blooming Prairie, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 54. Dave was born April 24, 1963 in Rochester, Minnesota to Stanley and Darlene (Schoonover) Riess. He enlisted in the Navy shortly before graduating from Mayo High School in 1981. He served in the US Navy from 1982 to 1985, stationed in California. He was married in San Diego, California on September 17, 1982. After time spent serving in Guam, he moved back to Rochester and remained in the Navy reserves for three years.

Dave worked at Crenlo for many years before following his dream of opening his own business in the wholesale bait industry. He and a close friend opened a small bait shop in Rochester and after successfully running the shop for years; they decided to sell the business. After selling the bait shop, his business adventures in the fishing industry took off, ultimately establishing his current business, The Prairie Wax Worm Farm with his long time business partner and friend.

Dave had a passion for the outdoors and spent much of his free time fishing, hunting, boating, and enjoying time with friends and family. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, logging many hours on the water. Anyone who knew Dave shared many laughs with him, as his greatest gift was his sense of humor. Dave will be remembered as a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and good friend to many.

Dave was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Riess. Dave is survived by his three children; Bill (Pamala) Riess of Rochester; Bria (Luke Klassen) Riess of Eyota; and Braden Riess of Rochester, five grandchildren; Landen, Hayden, Milayna, Cohen, and Jack, his mother, Darlene Riess, siblings; Cindy (Bentley) Sleeper; Dale (Kris) Riess; and Jill Riess, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.

A celebration of Dave's life will be held on Sunday, April 15th 2018 at The Eagles Club in Rochester from 1-4pm.
