Emerson Sikkink Obituary
Mr. Sikkink, of Harmony, died Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Saint Marys Hospital
Emerson Harold Sikkink "Pete" was born Sept. 16, 1930, in Bristol Township, Fillmore County, at the home of his parents, Harold and Vera (Boland) Sikkink. Pete graduated from Harmony High School in 1948, then served in the Navy from 1951-1954. On May 23, 1953, he married Edith Lorraine Reed "Lorraine" in Rochester at the First Baptist Church. After honorable discharge from the Navy, Mr. Sikkink worked at Rochester Dairy for a few years, and then on Aug. 19, 1963, started working at the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office for 28 years. On June 30, 1991, he retired at the rank of captain. After his retirement from the sheriff's office, Pete and Lorraine opened their own business, Sikkink Processing Service, which they owned for 11 years. Pete also worked for Dunlap and Seeger for several years.
Pete and Lorraine have been members of Homestead United Methodist Church since 1957. Pete enjoyed their years of RV travel and camping, watching sports, working and most of all spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He also enjoyed morning coffee at Hy-Vee with his friends.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lorraine; two sons, Gary (Vicki) of Rochester and Greg (Twila) of Rochester; five grandchildren, Chad (Brooke), Adam (Kelse), Evie (Kolt), Zach and Tanner; and one great-grandchild, Jack; and two brothers, Elton (Sharon) of Wykoff and Paul (Judy) of Harmony.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Vera Sikkink; brother, Roger (Marge), and grandson, Derek.
The family would like to thank Mayo Clinic and Saint Marys Hospital for their care and support. A special thank you to Lynn Borkenhagen and her staff.
