Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 5, 2010.
DESPORT PAUL J. JR.
Died Monday, August 30, 2010 at the age of 63. He is survived by his three children, son Paul J. Desport III, daughter and son-in-law Renee' and Steve Kilkeary and daughter Patricia Lynn Desport, mother Elizabeth Desport and sister Nancy Zapf as well as numerous sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews. He has also left behind a number of friends in Hudson Florida, especially Sherry and Larry Malone, whom held his hand at the time of his death. He was a very proud Vietnam Veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corp trained as a Field Radio Operator from December of 1965 to December of 1968. After his discharge he joined the Teamster then retired from Airborne Express in 2002. After retirement he moved to Hudson Florida where he remained for the rest of his life. He was an avid bowler and was a true Pittsburgh Steelers Fan to the end. He fought cancer diligently for close to four years before it was his time to leave behind his earthly suffering. A 21 Gun Salute Memorial and Luncheon was held by his children on Saturday Sept. 4, 2010 in his honor. Donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Dear friends and family of Paul. I just learned of his passing today (1/15/2011) and was deeply shocked and saddened by the news. Please accept my heartfelt condolences -- I am stunned.

We served together in the Marines Corps and served on the same spot team at Hue VN. We also both served together after Viet Nam at Quantico Virginia, though we were in separate units. I visited him after my discharge in 1969 in Pittsburg and he stayed with me in 1989 for an Anglico Reunion in Washington D.C.

Unfortunately, I have not talked with him for a number of years.

He was such a good man. His nick name was "Clutch" becuase he could not drive a stick shift without grinding the gears. While stationed in Hue we played many marathon games of ping pong into all hours of the night. Everytime I scored a point I would say Justice has triumphed which of course drove him crazy. But he had a good sense of humor. I also remember the roadrunner he purchased when he came back to the states.

I know that he cherished his children and that he had a zest for life. Even though we never talked a lot over the years, he was always in my heart. I will miss him very much.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you. You were THE most important people in your father's life. I'm sorry that things had to turn out the way they have. Take peace in the fact that your father is now in God's arms.

He was such a wonderful man. Larry and I spent many times together. At Sam's on the Beach in Hudson, eating Crab cakes and watching the sun set. For all the Holidays he spent with our family, he will still have a place at the table when they come again, and a spot on the couch to watch football games with us as well as a lane to bowl with us when we go. We loved him and loved being his "family in Florida". God Bless and God Rest, Paul. We will miss you but never forget you!! Love Sherry, Larry, Joshua, Cody & Savanna

What a beautiful obituary. He will be greatly missed! We attended his beautiful memorial service with the 21 gun salute, flag presentation to his daughters and playing of taps, it truly was a beautiful day attended by over a hundred people who loved and cared for Paul and his children.

So very sorry to learn of Paul's passing; he was a fine man who will be greatly missed by all who cared for him. My condolences are extended to his wife, Suzanne Murphy Desport, of Hudson, Florida in her time of grief. As Paul's loving wife, she was a great support for him as he fought so hard in his battle with cancer.
