I worked as one of Mary's student employees on the Child Care Study. She was one of the most kindhearted and wonderful people I have ever met. Her sarcastic wit was the greatest joy of going to work there each day and it helped me form a strong connection with her. In the short time I knew her, Mary helped me grow as a student and a psychologist. I can only offer my deepest condolences. I will miss her dearly.

Kate and family,
I just learned of your mother's passing and am so sorry I was not able to attend the funeral and come down to see you. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend. I will truly miss seeing her outside in her garden. May she be at peace and in a never-ending garden of light.

Mary was a household name in our family. We met her through the child care study and for many years looked forward to her calls and visits. She soon became an active member on our invited list to dance recitals, graduations and treated like family. Always a happy and upbeat lady, you just loved her. She will be missed by many and loved by all. Our sympathies to her family and grandchildren with whom she cared and played with during her illness and retirement days.

I bet it's impossible to calculate how many lives Mary touched and all the good she did for them. I met her through the child care study and was always impressed with how much she cared for and liked people. Her life is an example for all of us. I'll miss her.

'Miss Molyneaux' was one of many fabulous teachers at Sacred Heart! The 'heart' girls were so fortunate to have a dedicated faculty.

I wanted to send all of you my deepest sympathies. I was a graduate student who worked with your mother on the NICHD Study of Early Childcare and I only recently moved back to my hometown of Seattle. Mary's friendship meant the world to me and brightened my time in Pittsburgh. She talked frequently about how much she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and bird watching in her yard. She will be deeply missed!

I was one of Miss Molyneaux's students at Sacred Heart High in 1963 when I was a sophomore. She was so glamorous, we thought, because she used Tabu cologne. My condolences to your family on the loss of Mary.

I am so saddened to hear of Mary’s passing. I also worked with Mary at the University of Pittsburgh and was glad to call her a friend. She had such a wonderful, spunky spirit. She could be wickedly funny and extremely kind. She was such a giving person and worked hard to care for those closest in her life. I would often admire the collection of the pictures of families from the child care study in her office. Beyond the data she worked tirelessly to collect, the Christmas cards, school pictures, and snapshots on her wall presented such a wonderful history. From visiting the families with her, it was obvious that they adored her and considered her a part of their family.
Mary also had such a love of literature. I enjoyed sharing books and New Yorkers with her and always appreciated her insight into a novel’s themes. I used to love to hear her tell her own stories of growing up in my adopted neighborhood of Swisshelm Park and her time in the Peace Corp. After my son was born, she became a surrogate office grandmother to him, and her baby-wisdom helped me immensely as a young mother. I know she was so very proud of her children and overjoyed at the birth of her grandchildren.
In true Mary form, she fought such a battle against a disease that claims too many of our loved ones. She has such a special place in my heart. I miss her greatly and my thoughts go to her family at this time. Peace be with you, Mary.

To the Nied Family,
My family had the pleasure of getting to know Mary over the many years associated with the early childhood study. She was a warm and wonderful person, who clearly had a passion for her work and a love of children. My entire family, especially my 17 year old son, offers their deepest sympathy.

I worked with Mary on the Child Care Study. I can not even began to say how much I learned from her about enjoying people and making families feel welcome. She always treated them with kindness and respect, and they all loved her for it. She also showed the same kindness to staff and was always a good listener and friend.
She will truly be missed.
