Dear Hugh and family,
Dan's high school class is preparing for its 40th reunion which is how I saw his obituary.
I met Dan in Mt Lebanon High School and then saw him a couple of times after he cam back to Pittsburgh in those first few years after graduation.
I have carried a memory of him through every essay test I have ever taken...We were in AP English together and they would hand out the question to write about. Most of us would madly start scribbling - cross out, start over, scramble - but Dan would just sit quietly, thinking, imagining, organizing, and write the best essay in the class in the last 10 minutes.
I have tried to hold on to this memory as a kind of life lesson.
My condolences to your family.

I went to high school with Dan - we kind of ran in the same circles, but he was way cooler than I was. And so very smart! I'm so very sad to hear he is gone - the world is a little darker today.

Dear Hugh,
I met your brother at Sunset Hills Presbyterian Church in sixth grade. We became fast friends--we were both preternaturally interested in science--and stayed friends through high school.
Dan was one of the smartest people I have ever known. He was also really funny and kind, and was a good friend. And a good trumpet player too. I greatly valued our friendship.
My best to you and your family, Hugh. We didn't know each other but I still remember hearing a tape of a prog rock band that you were in. I think Tm Craig played me the tape and I think you were the drummer. The music was great!
Yours,
Jim Ferrell

I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. I remember taking chemistry class with him in 10th grade and he had the highest grade in the class and the teacher called him "top banana". My condolences to your family.

Dan Huntley was a close childhood friend of mine. We shared happy days at the Mt. Lebanon pool and playing in the neighborhoods. I am very very sorry to hear of his passing. God bless you Dan!

Hugh,
The notice of Dan's death was sad I tried to locate him a couple of times over the past years but was not successful. I know Dan had some rough times, but my memories of him, when he
he lived at our place were good ones. Hope all is well with you and your family. Still in Michigan?
Take care,
John Canning
