THOMAS BOONE
66, formerly of Ligonier, died Friday, January 17, 2014, at his home in Washington, PA. He was born July 24, 1947 in Latrobe, a son of the late Dr. Harold Kinney and Dr. Mary Seamon Kinney. Tom graduated from Penn State University with a B.A. in political science in 1969, from Miami University in 1972 with a Master's Degree in political science, and was a member of the Pi Gamma Mu Social Science Honor Fraternity. He currently had been employed as Senior VP of Piper Jaffray & Company, Investment Bankers of Pittsburgh. Prior to entering the banking business, he taught State and Local Government Finance at Ursinus College. He is an active member of the Pa. School Boards Assoc., P.M.A.A., the Pittsburgh Stock and Bond Association, the Security Traders Assoc., as well as several not-for-profit and civic organizations. Tom served eight years on the Governor's Advisory Council on hunting, fishing, and conservation. He was also a member of Ligonier Lodge #331 F&AM, the Valley of Pittsburgh Consistory, the Oakmont Country Club, the Laughlintown Protective Assoc., Washington Sportsmen's Club, Old Colony Sportsmen's, was a life member of the National Rifle Assoc., Trout Unlimited, United Bowhunters of Pa., Pa. Long Bow Assoc., the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the Ruffed Grouse Society, and the National Wild Turkey Assoc., to name but a few. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Kinney. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Dukate Kinney; two sons, Timothy B. Kinney of Greensburg and Dr. Ted B. (Amy) Kinney of Mars; a stepdaughter, Tina (Lance) Atkinson of Nashville, TN; six grandchildren, Alex, Cassidy, Rosalie, and Benjamin Kinney, and Bishop and Ellora Atkinson; two sisters, Jane (Kenneth) Meyers of Washington, DC, Mary Alpaugh of Florida, and John Kinney of Latrobe. Friends will be received Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the J. PAUL McCRACKEN FUNERAL CHAPEL, INC., 144 East Main Street, Ligonier, where Tom's life will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Dr. J. Paul McCracken, officiating. Interment will follow in the Ligonier Valley Cemetery. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made in Tom's memory to the charity of one's choice.
