BEERMAN DR. CURTIS A.
Age 100, of Laurelview Village passed away May 12, 2015, at his home. Born April 14, 1915, in Johnstown, son of Samuel and Bessie (Berney) Beerman. Preceded in death by parents; daughter, Hope Beerman; brother, Abba Beerman; sisters, Hope Beerman, Hysora Levin. Survived by wife of 72 years, Myra June (Bankin) Beerman; children, Lee Bankin Beerman married to the former Janet Brostoff, Lynn Helen married to Alan Goldbloom; grandchildren, Michael Beerman, Elizabeth married to Michael Carl, Ellen Goldbloom married to Josh Kardish, Amy Goldbloom married to David Frenkel, Stephen Goldbloom; great-grandchildren, Atticus Carl, Cecelia Carl "CeCe", Sam, Ben and Rachel Kardish. Member of Beth Sholom Congregation. Graduate of PSU and received his doctorate from St. Louis University medical school. He loved bridge and had multiple masters points. He was an avid tennis player; he was the Altoona high school champion. He was also an avid golf player, he managed to get four holes in one and played well into his 90's having barley missed shooting his age at 89 when he three putted the 18th hole. He married his wife in January of 1942 in Puerto Rico. He was a WWII Army medical corp specialist in tropical diseases in the South Pacific where he published a paper on malaria control. He served his internship at West Penn hospital where he won the highest achievement for surgery. After his residency in pediatrics in Washington, DC he founded Franklin pediatrics practice in 1947, along with Ellery Michaud and was then joined by Lawrence Rosenberg, Carl Berger and Bradley Drennen. He was the clinician consultant for the Johnstown heart clinic; he served as president of the staff at Conemaugh. He was awarded a distinguished service award in 1997. He practiced well into his 80's. He maintained a close relationship with Children's hospital and attended weekly routes. He served as a role model for many individuals going into medicine including his son Lee in pediatric cardiology and his granddaughter Ellen in pediatric endocrinology. Beth Sholom congregation awarded him a gold leaf on the tree of life for reaching 100 years. He was a loving father and clinician and will be missed by his family and patients whom he continued to encounter up until right before his death. Friends will be received Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at JOHN HENDERSON CO. FUNERAL HOME, 215 Central Ave., Rabbi Irvin Brandwein. Interment Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Conemaugh Health Foundation or Interim Healthcare Hospice, 322 Warren St., Suite 270,, Johnstown PA 15905.

Lee and family, we are so sorry for your loss. I never had the honor of meeting him but had heard from others that he was a very good doctor, like his son. Again condolences from the Messerlys.
