Edna Murdoch, David was born in Braddock and graduated from Wilkinsburg High School (1960), Harvard College, A.B. (1964), Harvard Law School, LL.B (1967). At the time of his death he served on the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary Board of Directors (since 2013); the Fund for the Advancement of Minorities through Education (FAME); the Holocaust Center Commission of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh; and the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh (Chair Emeritus). Previously he served as Chair of World Learning, Inc., the American Council on Germany and the Sewickley Library Board. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2015, at the SEWICKLEY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 414 Grant Street, Sewickley. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at the Sewickley Presbyterian Church. Private interment will be in Sewickley Cemetery. Definition of Pillar of Society

A person who is universally respected-reliable-decent and
hardworking..that is more of a giver than a taker; often engaging
in voluntary work and taking up worthy causes, who neighbors
and the community has high regard and esteem for

David Murdoch was a Pillar of Society.

Dear Joan, Christina, Timmy, and Deborah

We are especially privileged to have known David.

Sincerely,

Susan Robinson and Morgan Anderson

Joan, Dave and I shared a common passion in the Experiment in International Living. We worked closely on the World Learning board for many years and I was quite fond of him. You and your family have my deepest sympathy over his loss.

I had the opportunity as a young lawyer more than thirty years ago to watch Mr. Murdoch at board meetings of the Pennsylvania Housing Facilities Authority. I was struck by his clarity of thought and expression, his reasonableness and his keen intellect. I remember thinking that he represented what a lawyer should be. I have always remembered that experience.

I knew David in high school. He was one of the most intelligent, wise, and charismatic people I have ever known. Others looked up to him naturally. He was truly a born leader.
