Age 67, of Land O' Lakes, Florida, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016. Phyllis was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and moved to the Tampa Bay area in 1983. Her work career included the phone company, banking industry, and retail sales. In her early retirement she was a proud mother, wife, homemaker, and member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. Phyllis earned many well deserved titles throughout her wonderful life. She was an amazing daughter to Rita and Francis "Murph" McCarthy; a caring and trusting sister to Bill and David; a loving and devoted wife to Larry; the best mother anyone could ever ask for to Tom and Angie; and an amazing grandmother to her pride and joy, her grandsons, Braxton and Jacob. Her fondness for sweets and chocolates and willingness to share unlimitedly with her grandsons even earned her the affectionate nickname of "Bad Gammy". Beyond family, she had an amazing circle of friends. Phyllis never met a stranger, she was the most caring and trusting friend anyone could have. Phyllis was lovingly nicknamed "Hollywood" by her friends because of her flare for dress, flashy sunglasses, beautifully accented jewelry, knack for decorating, and her ability to host wonderfully festive social gatherings. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was surrounded by them either shopping, going on a cruise, or just staying at home. Her lovely smile, unselfishness, infectious laugh, and amazing ability to make you happy in her presence are just a few of the many qualities that will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing her. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Rita and Francis; and her husband of 43 years, Larry. Phyllis is survived by her son, Tom and his wife, Laura; daughter, Angie; two brothers, Bill and his wife, Bonnie, David; and two grandchildren, Jacob and Braxton. A memorial mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. A Celebration of Life will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at the clubhouse in Phyllis' neighborhood for all of her friends and family. "My mother is someone who taught me so much and provided me love and caring my entire life. I am at a loss to describe the amount of sorrow and pain I feel in losing her.
