Samuel J. Miller

Samuel J. Miller, 87, beloved husband of Suzanne (Drabinsky) Miller of East Pikeland Township, died Friday Aug. 16 in the Phoenixville hospital.
Sam was born in Phoenixville and resided all his life in East Pikeland. Sam was a 1943 graduate of the former Spring City High School and a graduate of Millersville University.
He was employed for 36 years as a Driver Education teacher for the Ridley School district, until his retirement.
Sam was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, past member of the Lodge #553 of Spring City, a Past Grand Tall Cedar of Spring City Forest #34 Tall Cedars of Lebanon (past Supreme Scribe, Forrest Scribe for many years), Knights of Mecca, member of Rajah Shrine, Chapel for the Four Chaplains, and the Reading Consistory.
Sam was a life member of the Liberty Fire Company in Spring City, the Spring City American Legion post 6032, Thomas W. O'Connor and the National Rifle Association.
Same loved being with his granddaughters and he enjoyed small game hunting as well as fishing in the French Creek.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons, Jessie Miller Jr., husband of Kathy Miller of Phoenixville,; and William F. Miller, husband of Mary Louise Miller of Phoenixville; and granddaughter, Christina and Corrine. He is preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Schlessman, and brothers G. Harold, Paul, Gerald, Raymond Y. and Kenneth B. Miller.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Saturday Aug. 24 at 11:15 a.m. at the Shalkop Grace and Strunk Funeral Home at Bridge and Church Streets in Spring City. A Masonic service will be held at 11 a.m. the same day. Burial will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in spring City. His viewing will be held at the funeral home on Saturday Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. A memorial gift may be made in his memory to the Muscular Dystrophy Association at 600 Reed Road #104 Broomall, PA 19008.
