Douglas Hastings

DOVER PLAINS - Douglas Hastings, 62, a 35-year resident of the Dover Plains, NY area, died on Friday, November 18, 2011 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. Mr. Hastings was a therapy aide at the Hudson River Psychiatric Center in Poughkeepsie, NY for 19 years retiring in 2006.

Born January 6, 1949 in the Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Clara (Martin) Hastings. He served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1975. On April 21, 1990 in Amenia, NY, he married Tonya Spiridigloizzi who survives at home. Mr. Hastings acted in small parts in movies and was an avid fan of the Batman character, the Three Stooges and Alfred Hitchcock. He was also a member of the Second Baptist Church of Dover Plains.

Besides his wife, he is survived by six daughters, Genevieve Ashby and her husband, Richard, of Dover Plains, NY, Alberta Schlafer and her husband, Raymond, of Dover Plains, NY, Georgia Malone and her husband, Thomas, of Dover Plains, NY, Katherine Vinchiarello and her husband, Tarance, of Dover Plains, NY, Deana and Darcy Hastings; a brother, Timothy Hastings of Wassaic, NY and a sister, Catherine Hastings of Florida. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Richard and Allison Ashby, Christopher and Kevin Schlafer, Thomas and Matthew Malone and Tarance Jr. and Leah Vinchiarello; a cousin, Peggy Garnto of Millerton, NY and a nephew, Robert Hastings of Poughkeepsie, NY. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Harry J. Hastings, Jr.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the funeral home with Rev. Jon Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Dover Plains. Doug was such joy to work with! He could make time fly by because of his wonderful sense of humour.What an honor to have known him even for a short while! A true Blessing he was to anyone he came in contact with . Doug aways made people smile or laugh 'til you cried!
