James Gunn Obituary
Beacon - James Robert Gunn passed away unexpectedly at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie on Monday, June 9, 2014. He was 85.
Born in Poughkeepsie on April 15, 1929 Jim was the son of the late Vincent Edward and Elise Marie Pia DeMugnosso Gunn. Jim was a 1947 graduate of Poughkeepsie High School. He worked at IBM in Poughkeepsie from 1948 to 1989, retiring as a Senior Associate Engineer. Jim was a Sargent First Class in the Army National Guard. On September 10, 1950 James married the former Mary C. Romanelli at St. John the Evangelist Church in Beacon. He was a member of the Bethlehem Rod & Gun Club, Greenhaven Fish & Game Club and the Dutchess County Sportsmen Association.
Jim had a passion for crossword puzzles, reading, tinkering, hunting, remote control boats and airplanes and wine making. He could fix anything and was the MacGyver of his time. Jim loved and was devoted to his family, his dog and cherished group of friends. He took loving care of his wife, Mary until her passing on April 4, 2014. Jim was the youngest and last of his family but his legacy will live on.
James is survived by his children, Michelle Cracolici-Chumas and her husband, Michael, Janice Pastorella and her husband, Thomas and Jeffrey Gunn and his wife, Sharon; his grandchildren, Thomas Pastorella, Jeanna Pastorella and her fiancé, Michael Martinelli, Jr. and Victoria (Tori) Chumas; his dog, Bo; his sister-in-laws, Mary J. Gunn, Virginia Gunn, Maria Gunn, Johanna Romanelli, Antoinette Miller, Jeanne Cole and her husband, Richard and Rose Polhemus; his brother-in-law, Albert Romanelli and his wife, Rosemary; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, James was predeceased by his son, Craig Gunn in 1963 and his siblings, Vincent, Thomas, Edward, John, Joseph Gunn and Elise Tynan.
The family will receive their friends on Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joachim Cemetery, 301 Washington Avenue, Beacon.

Jim you were more than just a neighbor, you were a dear friend who was always there with a helping hand or advice. We have many fond memories of you and Mary with the great stories
you two shared with us over the years.

I don't know what I would have done without Uncle Jimmy's guidance when my Dad passed away. I will always remember his laughter, his wit and that mustache. I miss him deeply. Thoughts and love to his family.

I am so sorry to hear of Jimmy's passing, he will be greatly missed. On weekend mornings when I woke and Scott wasn't home I would always know he would be with Jimmy for morning coffee. He will be with the love of his life now so he will be smiling at her.
