Barbara B. Ickes

Rhinebeck - Barbara B. Ickes, 84, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2014 in Rhinebeck.

Barbara was a native of Poughkeepsie and graduate of Poughkeepsie High School. She was trained as a radiologist in New Haven, Ct. and worked for several years at Vassar Hospital. After moving to Rhinebeck she was Assistant Librarian at the Chancellor Livingston School and was a secretary for Astor Services in Poughkeepsie and Rhinebeck.

Barbara was a dedicated member of the Church of the Messiah, Rhinebeck; she served on the Alter Guild, worked for many years at the church's food booth at the Dutchess County Fair, and ran the annual Christmas Bazaar. She was also very involved as a director of the Northern Dutchess Caregivers, and as a member of the Friends of the Starr Library. Barbara was an avid bridge player.

On April 27, 1951 at the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church, she married Melvin T. Ickes

Born September 28, 1930 in Poughkeepsie she was the daughter of Ralph and Beatrice (Stallmayer) Benedict.

In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by her sons, Thomas, and his wife Loretta of Hebron, Ct.; Mark, and his wife Charlene of Rhinebeck; five grandchildren, Sarah, Daniel, Alexa, Jordanna and Max; a cousin James Stallmayer; lifelong friend Dolores Novmensky and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Friday, November 28th, 4 to 7 PM, at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck. Prayers and a time of remembrance will begin at 6:30 PM.

Funeral services are Saturday, 10 AM, at the Church of the Messiah, 6436 Montgomery St., Rhinebeck. Following cremation, inurnment will be in the columbarium at the Church of the Messiah. Friends and family will be received in Donegan Hall following the Funeral.

Memorial donations may be to the Church of the Messiah, P.O. Box 248, Rhinebeck, NY 12572, or the Starr Library, 66 West Market St, Rhinebeck.
