Jean Schenk Obituary

Jean Marie Schenk, 84 of Iowa City died Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at Mercy Hospital under the loving care of Iowa City Hospice and the staff of Mercy Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 10, 2009, at First United Methodist Church in Iowa City with the Reverend John Raab officiating. (Sunday parking ordinance will be in effect for the streets around the church.) Burial will be at the Grout Cemetery rural southern Johnson County. Visitation will be after 9am Friday at the church until services. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Jean's memory to Iowa City Hospice or First United Methodist Church. Jean Marie Moss was born September 29, 1924, in Iowa City, the daughter of Claude E. and Elsie M. (Fletcher) Moss. She attended schools in the Iowa City, graduating with the Class of 1943 from City High School. On January 11, 1947, she married Harold E. Schenk at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. The couple for many years farmed south of Iowa City until moving to Iowa City in 2001. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, active in United Methodist Women, O.E.S. and Farm Bureau.
Her family includes her husband, Harold; brother, Kenneth Moss and his wife, Janice of Iowa City; sister, Donna Walkup and her husband, Gerald of Coralville; sister-in-law, Gladys Miller of Kalona; brother-in-law, Ed Watkinson of Cedar Rapids; former daughter-in-law, Lynhom Stout of Ankeny, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Mark Schenk in 1995; brother, Eldon Moss; sisters-in-laws, Waneta Watkinson, Iona Hudachek (Art), Hazel Bailey (Clair); and brothers-in-law, Fred Miller, and Clair Schenk.
A heart felt thanks to the many individuals who have been so good to Jean and Harold over the years, especially during Jean's illness; including but not limited to Iowa City Hospice, Hospice of Mercy, their friends and neighbors at Saddlebrook; and so many others over the years, thank you!
