I just learned of Jane's passing. She had my two boys in her class of "doubles" as she called it. She was the kindest, most caring and most creative teacher I have ever seen. She treated each child as a unique individual. God Bless you.

Dear Janine and family,
I was so very sadden and shocked to hear of your Mom's passing. Having her as a colleague at The Campus Preschool was transformative for me...as young woman just stepping out into the world. She was fun, kind, smart, passionate and so very dedicated to many young souls that passed through the doors of her classroom. She always made me feel welcomed and loved providing me with her gentle pearls of wisdom. And she entrusted me with you each day, her most precious gift. Although we didn't see a lot of each other as years passed when we did it was like we had seen each other just yesterday. Her bright infectious smile and love of life will be missed. It was an honor to have known her. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during this time of healing.

Dear Dr. Andrus, I thought about you today when I identified a bird(Western Meadowlark-Boise, ID) which I learned to do over 25 years ago in your Ornithology course. I wanted to see if you were still teaching, and found out your wife had passed. I am so sorry for your loss. Laura Leo, SUNY Binghamton class of 1988.

We are deeply saddened by the the news. Andrew and I will miss her dearly and we feel that Binghamton is now missing a very important part of what made it home for us. Our conversations with Jane and her smile attracted us to the bookstore on grey days when we needed some light. We will always remember her: Amaia's entire library is a reflection of Jane and what she cared about. The books that she gifted and selected for our daughter will give her a wonderful foundation for a life-long relationship to reading, thinking, and openness.
Wishing you peace,
Andrew Block and Mariana Grajales.

It has been over 30 years since Celeste and I built that little house across the street from you. Over the years whenever it was for sale we would talk about buying it back knowing you and Jane would be there to welcome us. When Jane and the Girls moved in to your home she brought joy and a spirit with such energy it was contiguous. We were blessed to have the opportunity to know her and she will be missed by many in this community. Rob Mack

My deepest condolences to your family on Jane's passing. Jane was my kindergarten teacher 33 years ago, and I have always remembered her as the first non-parent to appreciate my unique qualities and encourage me to follow the light inside. I know she did this with so many children -- we are all so lucky to have had her influence. With love, godspeed, Jane.

To the Family and Coworkers of Jane:
I first met Jane when I had a summer teaching job @ Campus PreSchool while I was still in college. We met agin @ River Read during a literacy event and she still was that kind, intelligent, articulate, peaceful being that I learned from so many years earlier. She was a blessing to this community. May you find comfort in her beautiful legacy.

Jane welcomed my daughter to her classroom every morning last year. Even though they only spent an hour together each day, Jane managed to give my little girl a very unqiue and special gift: independent thinking. I am very grateful for her influence, and equally saddened to hear of her passing. I hope that her family and friends take comfort in each other and her legacy.

Janine and family-
I have so many fond memories of your mom. She was always generous and kind - taking us to all of our activities and supporting our extra curricular activities (this included trips to the mall) :). I was always amazed at her gentle spirit and her point of view - which caused me to think differently about mine. Looking back, that was the sign of a great teacher. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. I think of you often.

Jane was my daughter's wonderful kindergarten teacher and we stayed in touch for many years after. I will never forget what Jane said to me when, after a year in which I survived a life-threatening illness, I complained about turning 40; Jane said simply, "Better to be turning 40 than to not be turning 40." So sorry that Jane herself has died too soon. She will be missed.

Dear Alexis, Dick and family,

Jane was my kindergarten teacher 25 years ago, and I am sorry for her loss. Just a few years ago, I met her again while I was at RiverRead books on a visit to Binghamton. Jane recognized me and told me that she still had a drawing I had made when I was 5 years old. I hadn't seen her in all those years but I still loved her and I was grateful to meet her again and touched that she remembered me so well. What a loving and nurturing woman! -- Viva R. Horowitz

Sorry about your loss. I am out of town and saddened by the news. Jane was my daughter Elise's kindergarten teacher at Campus Preschool . Life is eternal and Janes spirit remains with us always. She was a beautiful soul who shared her gifts with us . Elise is a freshman at Binghamton University and when I told Jane , she beamed with pride. Then asked if she was studying Spanish because she remembered her aptitude for it in her class .Jane knew the value of introducing Spanish to her students . She was a crown jewel to the school and community . I will cherish my conversations with her about her family, travel and food. Blessings
