Joseph Wallikas Obituary

Wallikas, Joseph Julius

Joseph Julius Wallikas of Los Angeles, California, 91 years, fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday morning, December 2, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was a son of the late Kazimeiras and Katerina (Morosas) Valeykas. He was predeceased by two brothers, infant Charles Walikis and Anthony Valika; and two sisters, Josephine Thiele and Amelia Moschak; and special companion Anna Macenas. He is survived by his caring niece, Dolores and her husband, Michael Kundrat, Johnson City. He was a beloved great-uncle to Michael Kundrat, Joseph Kundrat, and Nadine (Michael) Korchak. He was a cherished great-grand uncle to Michael, Kristianna and Nicholas Kundrat; and Maria, Michael and Anna Korchak. Joe is also survived by several cousins; and Loretta Branick, Diana and Wayne Dowdey & family, and Marta and Dr. Nicholas Seketa & family. Joseph was born in Binghamton and orphaned at a young age. He worked for Ansco as a teen. As a young man he moved to Hollywood, CA to pursue his dream of making movies. He was an accomplished film maker in optical & special effects. His name and his company's name were listed on many movie credits. Some of his recognizable film works included: the fuse in the "Mission Impossible" TV series, making "Superman" fly, and shrinking the kids in "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids". Disney Studios called him out of retirement for his technical expertise. Although he was a talented film worker in Hollywood, he lived a humble life. He was a very generous man and proud of his Lithuanian heritage. He was a caregiver to many elderly Lithuanians in the Los Angeles community. Even until a few weeks ago, he was a volunteer at the Lithuanian Senior Center. He visited all 50 states, Mexico, Europe, and Canada. His beloved niece Dolores and her children were the stars in his life. We'll remember his life as one that he lived his dream, was kind to all, generous to those less fortunate, and compassionate to the elderly. Uncle Joe will always be our star. The family would like to express gratitude to Very Rev. James Dutko and Dr. David Lee & Staff of Glendale Memorial Hospital, CA. A Funeral Mass will be offered Saturday, 9:30 a.m. by Rev. Msgr. John Putano at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1 Aquinas St., Binghamton. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joseph's memory to a charity of one's choice.

Funny thing, I just happened to be looking through a photo album re-visiting my parents, as my mother, Agnes L. Blaha (Blabac) passed away 12 years ago on 11-29th. I ran across the obituary of my dear Uncle Joe, and smiled as I re-read it, and looked deep into his eyes in the attached photo of him. Such a sad loss, losing such a wonderful man. He has been dearly missed by many, I am absolutely certain of that. But, I do know, that Uncle Joe is in Heaven, with many of his family members, and with my own parents. Hopefully, they enjoyed a beautiful Thanksgiving Day looking down on all of us, remembering our love for them all. May God Bless them All.
Sincerely,
Susan M. Williford (Blaha)

Joseph Wallikas has been, and will always be MY "Uncle Joe" whom I have known since I was a very small child. He was long-time great friends with my parents, Francis & Agnes Blaha; thus he was my Adopted Uncle. Uncle Joe was often in attendance at our home most Sunday afternoons for a home-cooked family meal, and was always at our home on ALL holidays, where he would often capture the family moments on movie film. For years, we shared many wonderful summer and winter weekends at his weekend cabin retreat in Lake Arrowhead, CA. Uncle Joe was a very warm, compassionate, funny, and very generous person. I fondly remember, he annually treated all his social circle of friends children while we were all young, to a fun-filled special day at Disneyland, where he was often the only adult running after a dozen children so happy to see Micky Mouse & Goofy, & to ride the many rides. We would end the fun-filled day at mid-night by watching the Disney characters on parade along with a colorful fireworks celebration; thereby sharing a wonderful day of merriment! While driving there, I will always remember him declaring as we neared Disneyland, "who ever see's the Matterhorn first, gets a Nickle". Uncle Joe was a great friend and very special person in our family, he was dearly loved. Although my parents predeceased him by 9 & 8 years, I know they greeted him with a warm hello and welcomed arms when he entered into heaven. I shall remember and miss this very special person for the rest of my life; he was a dear friend, and MY Special Uncle. God Bless You Uncle Joe! Love Forever, Susan

What a wonderful man! We as children always felt special in his eyes! Also he was a generous man. When my mom, my daughter and I went to California, he was right there for us. We had the best tour guide! My dad and he were good friends throughout the years. I will always think of him as my Uncle Joe! ❤❤❤
