Robert Corrigan Obituary

Corrigan, Robert J.

Robert J. Corrigan, a 25 year resident of Wilton, CT, passed away at home on June 26, 2013 after a long battle with cancer. Born August 14, 1940 to Helen and Joseph Corrigan he was raised in Babylon, NY. He graduated from Seton Hall High School in 1958 and went on to Manhattan College, Bronx, NY. In 1962 he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Later, he earned a Masters degree in Industrial Administration from Union College. He joined IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY in 1962. Two years later he married Regina (Jeanne) Owens of Sayville, NY on June 20. In the following years their five sons were born. During his 32-year career with IBM he assumed increasing responsibilities holding managerial positions in the U.S. and in Paris, France. Ultimately he became an IBM Vice President, and President and CEO of the IBM PC Company. Following his retirement from IBM in 1994, Mr. Corrigan was President and CEO of IMAX Corporation in Toronto, Canada. He transformed the business before retiring in 1996. His deep commitment to Manhattan College led him to serve on the Board of Advisors of its School of Business. The Board of Advisors helped structure the school's management processes and outcomes assessment measures, and was instrumental in the school's accreditation process with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International in 2003. Mr. Corrigan was an American Cancer Society volunteer, driving cancer patients to their appointments. He was an avid golfer and a member of both Silver Spring Country Club in Ridgefield, CT, and Cape Cod National Golf Club in Brewster, MA. Golfing with his sons, his brothers and friends gave him great pleasure. As an enthusiastic life-long learner his interests were wide and far reaching. His passions included books, music, astronomy, art, stamps, history, and math. He was, always, an avid reader. He loved to travel and to cook unusual recipes from around the world. Museums delighted him both here and abroad. A dedicated family man, Bob Corrigan thoroughly enjoyed the company of his sons, their spouses, and the 12 grandchildren. Gatherings in Wilton or at their beach house were numerous, fun and memories to be treasured. He is survived by Jeanne, his loving wife of 49 years; their sons and spouses: Robert Jr. (Julie), Timothy (Christine), Paul (Kellie), David, and Kevin (Carolina); 12 grandchildren: Shannon, Katie, Jack, Madeline, Thomas, Charlotte, Amelia, Harry, James, Norah, Oscar, Bella. Also, his brothers Michael Corrigan of Mattapoisett, MA and Joseph Corrigan of Poughkeepsie NY, two nephews and a niece. Visitation will be at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT (203) 866-0747. Saturday 4PM-8PM and Sunday 4PM-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday 10AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Route 7, Wilton, CT. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, 70 Ridgefield Road, Wilton, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Francis Friends of the Poor, 155 W 22nd St., New York, NY 10114, Attention Fr. John Felice. Dear Corrigan Family......
This picture of Bob is exactly how I remembered him (except for white hair)
when I was his secretary in B/003 in Poughkeepsie IBM right out of high school in 1969. I'll never forget his
kindness in surprising me with a beautiful poinsetta plant to my Cold Spring, NY home during the holidays. May he rest in peace & be proud of the legacy he left behind and the family who loved him.
Sincere heartfelt condolences,
Ginny (Fazio) Upton

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
