Charles H. Burgess
of Nichols, N.Y.
Charles H. Burgess, 69, a long time resident of Nichols, N.Y., passed away in Bradenton, Fla., on Sunday, September 26, 2004. He was born on November 12, 1934, in Nichols, the son of the late Howard Benjamin and Myrtle Bell (Conklin) Burgess Hyde. Chuck, as he was affectionately known, spent his youth living in Nichols and attended Nichols High School. For many years, Chuck served as constable in the town of Nichols; spent many hours at the Tioga Country Club where he worked as a part time ranger. He enjoyed Sunday breakfasts at the Nichols American Legion, visiting with friends, and was an avid baseball player for many years. He will be remembered for his talent of being able to repair lawnmowers. Chuck is survived by his son, Danni and friend, Joan Sherwood, Nichols; daughter, Wendy; grandson, Patrick, both of Florida; his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Jenny Burgess of Richford, N.Y.; sister, Ruth Pratt and friend, Harold Kithcart of Windsor, N.Y.; his loving companion and best friend for the past three years, Deann Tucker of Bradenton, Fla.; step brother, Francis Hyde, Maine, N.Y.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jake and Helen Matteo, Endicott; sister-in-law, Karen "Pinkie" Corwin, Fla.; brother-in-law, Thomas Walbridge of N.C.; few grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Chuck was predeceased by his wife, Gloria; and son, Scott.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, October 9th, at 1 p.m. at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Interment will be in the Nichols Cemetery.
Those who wish may kindly consider a memorial contribution to the Hospice of Southwest Florida, 3355 26th Street W., Bradenton, Fla. 34205, in loving memory of Charles H. Burgess.
