Naomi Fahs Obituary

Fahs, Naomi

It is with great sadness, love, and gratitude we announce the passing of our beloved Naomi Fahs, 93, who went to the heavens on Friday, June 6th, 2014, at Good Shepherd Villages of Endwell. Naomi was a kind, compassionate, and spirited mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. Naomi's open heart, endless generosity, and vivacious spirit will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her. Naomi was predeceased by her parents, Agnes and William Winchell; and her beloved husband of 47 years, Maynard G. Fahs Sr. She is survived by her children, Lana Tipton of San Diego, CA and Maynard and Megan Fahs of Binghamton. She had nine grandchildren also survive her, Steve (Margi) Tipton, Jeff (Kim S.) Tipton, Gregg (Suzzane) Tipton, Kristy (Som) Faramarzi, Melissa, Michelle, Matthew, Dylan and Lacey Fahs; and also 11 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and many, many friends. Naomi graduated from North High School in Binghamton. Despite early hardships, Naomi never failed to find or appreciate the simple beauties or love in life where she often came to the service of others. Volunteering at a gun clip factory while her husband served in WWII or as a tireless and devoted member of First Congregational Church, her purposeful and kind nature endeared her to many and spoke to her true heart, which was giving. Naomi was a member of The Monday Afternoon Club, The Binghamton Garden Club, a deaconess at First Congregational Church, and also in charge of the Chow Food Pantry at the church for many, many years. Naomi organized the WWII Barrage Balloons Veterans Reunions and also volunteered at General Hospital in her younger years. Singing, music, and a deep love of flowers and gardening with her husband were times lovingly spent at the family homestead on Carman Road and on their special island pond. Many, many parties were had at their home where Naomi was always the "Belle of the Ball." They always had Thanksgiving dinners every year with the entire family attending and they would never turn anyone away. Naomi always said, "Just pull up another chair." Naomi's favorite holiday was Christmas and she would keep her decorations and tree up until late March. Naomi loved to travel, cook, and would never say no to any type of event, function, or party—she was the true meaning of "someone that knew how to have a good time." Naomi's favorite color was pink and whether it was a flower, an article of clothing, or the walls in her room, she always wanted it to be pink. The family would like to say a special thank you to the Gallo family, who treated our Mom as if she was their own. Also to Mom's best friend, Silvana Gallo, who has spent countless hours with Mom over the past eight years caring for her and taking her out for her favorite ice cream. We would also like to thank the nurses and caregivers at Good Shepherd Villages and also the staff at Castle Gardens during the time that she lived there. Funeral Services will be held at First Congregational Church, corner of Main and Front Streets, Binghamton, Friday at 10 a.m. Reverend Arthur M. Suggs, her pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Naomi may be made to First Congregational Church, 30 Main St., Binghamton, NY 13905. My wife and I met the Fah's many years ago and as I read the article of her life I found myself saying that is so ture. Mr. & Mrs. Fahs were wonderful people who never did anything in a small way they were "salt of the earth"people who were always giving and always had an open heart. Please know that you and your family are in our prayers during this time of loss. Your mom was a very special person to us.

I shed many tears when I read the obituaries tonight in Texas, then I was flooded with so many memories. Naomi was one of a kind--she did everything in a big way. She entertained big, she shopped big, she helped big, and most of all, she loved big. I'm sure Maynard was there to welcome her, along with so many friends from First Congregational Church. they are either barbequing chicken or grilling huge, thick steaks and I'm sure my John is making beans!!! My sympathy to you all. Love and Peace, Peg Kingsbury

My good friend Naoma, you are always, and will forever be in my heart. When I heard you had passed, my first thought was that your beloved husband Maynard was there to meet you at the gates of heaven, telling you that you both had been apart long enough. He then took you in his arms, and you laughed your beautiful laugh and you began your reunion dance.
All of my love,
Your good friend, Sherry
