John Janos Obituary

Janos, John M.

John M. Janos, 57, of Binghamton, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 6, 2013, while on duty with the Binghamton Fire Department. He was predeceased by his father, John Janos. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Sharon Buyck Janos, Binghamton; his children, Michael and Kelly Janos, Falls Church, VA, Lisa Janos, Rochester, Daniel Janos, Binghamton; his mother, Helen Kaschak, Binghamton; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Kaschak, NM, Helen and Sandy Burnaby, Petersboro, Canada, Patricia and Patrick O'Day, Binghamton; a brother, David Janos, Deposit; brother-in-law, Allen and Jody Buyck, Binghamton; nieces and nephews, Jessica O'Day and Ben Wolf, Nicholas and Amy, Kris Harris, Danielle Janos, Megan Buyck, Jimmie Buyck. John graduated from Binghamton Central High School, Class of 1973, and Broome Community College. He was a Firefighter for the City of Binghamton Fire Department with 24 years of service. He was a Paramedic and a Hazmat Specialist and was past President of the Binghamton Firefighters Union Local 729. John enjoyed playing in many local bands and worked recently at Mansion Recording Studio. He also enjoyed fishing. John was a devoted, loving family man. We will miss you! We love you! John Janos, better known as Bear to some, had many hidden talents. His smile could light up the room in two seconds, and it did. Bear was involved in music from a young age, playing in bands with his childhood friends. Although he chose to be a firefighter, many don't know the contribution he made to local artists. Bear built the Mansion studio with close friends in order to help talented young artists in this area start their career. He watched out for everyone, from colleagues, to clients, to people he barely knew. John's remarkable way to help people in an aspects will reverberate throughout our lives forever. Bear, we love you, you will be missed. Funeral Services will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Highland Ave., Binghamton, Wednesday at 10 a.m. Reverend Gerald J. Buckley and Reverend Corey S. VanKuren, Binghamton Fire Department Chaplains, will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. The family requests that flowers please be OMITTED and memorial contributions in memory of John be made to the Retired Professional Firefighters Cancer Fund, 4 Loretta Dr., Binghamton, NY 13905.

Janos Family
We all were Shocked and deeply saddened by the news of John's passing. I had the honor of working with John for several years before he became a fireman, and then again as a brother firefighter a few years later. John never changed, he was always upbeat, he always found a way to make the best of every situation, and he always found a way to keep you laughing. He was our children's first surprise Santa Clause. we will never forget seeing them open the door and having a jolly, laughing Santa there to hand out gifts. I will miss his friendship greatly, and will never forget him. May you all find peace in knowing he is truly watching from Heaven.

To the Family and Friends of John:

We join in extending our sincere heartfelt sympathy to you and your family during this most difficult time. May happier memories help to sustain you and bring you comfort through this period of sorrow.

In the relatively short time I knew John, he soon became one of my nearest and dearest friends. The times we shared, both business and personal, were usually filled with joy and laughter. He watched over me and my brother firefighters like a mother hen, always making sure that everyone was accounted for and tucked in safely for the night. His compassion and concern for others was second to none.

I will miss the stories of the many travels and adventures we experienced together, and the dreams of what we talked about sharing together in retirement.

Until we meet again.....I love you and will never forget you. See ya, Buddy! May you rest in peace.
