David Niermeyer Obituary

Niermeyer, David A.

David A. Niermeyer, 74, of Vestal, devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, fiercely loyal to family died on Sunday July 24, 2016 . He was predeceased by his wife Florence Niermeyer; parents Lester and Jean Niermeyer; mother in law and father in law William and Ruth Meyer; son Paul Niermeyer; brothers Robert and James Niermeyer. He is survived by his sons and daughters in law David and Lizanne Niermeyer, Eric and Melanie Niermeyer; daughter and son in law Annelisa and Chuck Moore; brother and sisters in law Richard and Linda Niermeyer, Patricia Niermeyer, Ann Niermeyer; grandchildren Tiffany Niermeyer, Scott and Ashley Niermeyer, Aarika and Nathan Nybeck, Sarah Niermeyer, Alex Niermeyer, Lucas Niermeyer, Will Moore, Claire Moore, Garrett Moore; 7 great grandchildren. He was inspired by his faith in Jesus Christ to be a beacon of light in his sphere of influence and beyond, using his time, talents, and resources. A respected businessman who always put the success of his employees and the company above himself and role modeled generosity and compassion of the highest caliber to his children, grandchildren, family, friends, strangers, and just about everyone who came in contact with him. David was passionate about serving the poor and providing opportunity to those most in need. He established Boystown, a project for abandoned boys in Kenya, as well as initiated numerous educational scholarships and was ceaselessly loyal to his community through serving on numerous boards of directors. He was an avid traveler who spanned the globe, with the love of his life Florence Niermeyer. There is not enough room in these pages to list all the people throughout the world who have been touched by the kind and giving heart of David. Dave would always look for the best in people, and would do anything in his power to help them realize their full potential. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday August 6, 2016 at 11am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church 801 Main Street Vestal. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday August 5, 2016 from 5-8pm at the Barber Memorial Home, Inc. 428 Main Street Johnson City. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Niermeyer Foundation (224 Meeker Rd., Vestal, NY 13850) to continue Dave's legacy or to a charity of your choice.

Dear Annie, Eric, David and families:

Please accept my most heart-felt condolences on the passing of your father.

David was a one-of-a-kind person, truly hard to match. Kind and loving with his family and friends, committed and dedicated with his work and all the many philanthropic projects he supported throughout his entire life. David was someone to always lead by his own example:Never quit.

Looking back, I can certainly say now that both Florence and David have been like my adopted American parents. Through the thirteen years I spent in Binghamton they opened their house and their lives to me in a way that only family does, and for that I will always be grateful. The many wonderful memories I have from all those years remain very present and will stay with me as part of who I am.

Most regrettably, on August 5 I won't be able to attend the planned service because I am in the far East, but I shall dedicate the concert I am conducting to David's memory.

Rest in peace

We were so sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Niermeyer. We're Annie's brother-in-law and sister-in-law. We had the great fortune of meeting him and Mrs. Niermeyer at our wedding. They were such kind-hearted people. We got to see Mr. Niermeyer again out in Colorado where we really got to know his generous spirit. We feel like we know him so well from Annie's stories as well. He will definitely be missed on this Earth, but being a man of faith we know he is in a better place! May your wonderful memories bring you comfort during this difficult time. Love, Christy & Greg Moore

Dear Eric and David, & families,
It is with sadness that I extend my deepest sympathy at the passing of your dad, Dave.

I last saw him at the 60th reunion of Sacred Heart Grammar School, Rochester, NY last August, 2015. He was filled with joy! And a reflection on his life, as well as, on your mom's life, who was his soul-mate, - show that he was an accomplished, charitable, and dedicated human being. All the promise that was shown at a young age when I knew him - all his leadership qualities, loyalty to friends, blossomed in his life.
He will be missed . . . but, remembered for all the good he accomplished in his life.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Marie Parasch

Eric,
We were saddened to learn of the death of your father. Dave was a good friend and a dedicated member of the community. I had the pleasure of serving on several community boards with him, particularly at UHS and there was never anyone so prepared in advance of the meeting. His financial acumen was indispensable. We will keep him and his family in our prayers.

David Niermeyer and his wife, Florence, were among the warmest, most caring and delightful human beings we have ever known. Every moment we spent with them was a treasure. Both embodied every trait that makes ordinary people into extraordinary. They radiated charm, sincerity and love that lit up every room into which they entered. A true class act.

Our condolences to their children and to all the other members of the family of this incredible couple.
