Melanie, I have returned to this online guest book and just read your words to your Craig. I lost my previous husband of 17 yrs in 2001 and was advised "Keep a journal or any piece of paper handy at all times." It was the best thing anyone told me so I feel the need to tell you the same. Writing to him constantly for over a year and recording my dreams was exactly what I needed. I hope this would do as much for you, Melanie. We send so very heartfelt wishes for you and your family. -Vangie and Lyndon

My beloved, my best friend and the love of my life; I miss you soooooooooo much every single day. My heart aches, my mind hurts and I am lost without you. I cant wrap my self around all this. You were the best thing that ever happend to me because you let me be me. Thank you for loving me, for believing in me and for showing me how to live in the moment. I always called you a butterfly, and enjoyed watching you flutter from person to person. Heads turned constantly, and you always walked back to me! You lit up the room when you walked in the door; You made me laugh all the time, you were "THE" party when you finally arrived and you made one hell of a mean latte (with latte art in the foam)for me every single day of our marriage...Who does that? You were so genuinly concerned about everyone else, all the time. Over the top with Your love and laughs...You were a rare breed and I liked you instantly when I first laid eyes on you because you were simply really really nice. As I grew to know you, you charmed me and wooed me like nothing I have ever, ever experienced. You made me feel valued, cherished, you put me on a beautiful pedistol and offered me your attentive ear, every single night..Ohh the nights, oh, the moon and lucky us! We did it Craig, we had it all. Thank you. We raised all of our kids despite the never ending obstacles, oh, our amazing children.... How lucky was I to have had the honor to watch them all grow into the amazing people they have become. I know time will grant them peace. I only pray... I am a better person for having known and loved you. My life will never be the same; I will hold you you close, hold you dear and relish in the love we made ~ and that is enough my friend... Rest in peace, take a load off man, and watch over us...forever more. Forever...MENU

Anytime I start to feel mean or grouchy: I think of how Craig would shoot a quizzical look at me, beam that brilliant smile, and remind me of how good I really have it. I miss that!

Craig was the most precious son-in-law that I could ever have hoped to have. Always available to help me with anything that went wrong in my home. When he arrived to fix things, he had that smile and sense of humor and charisma that not only fixed my dilema but warmed my heart.I miss you soooooo much, but I am sure that you are in that heavenly kitchen practicing on those with you so that when I join you someday, Im going to be served a feast like none I have ever known. God Bless and keep you Craig. Keep that special seat reserved for me at your table. Love, Your M.I.L! Fran

Melanie Stammler & Family..
What a tremendous loss .. Craig was a lovely person and would always make one smile no matter what mood you were in.. He touched our lives and all who crossed his path.. I met Craig when he was around 12 years old , working in San Francisco for Courtesy Tow. He became close friends with my cousin John Tufo , he was like a member of their family , everyone adored him.. He lit a path where he travelled and will continue to wherever he is...

We knew Craig from Lococo's. He was our favorite waiter. We jokingly called him Dean because he looked like Dean Martin and he would always sing for us. He was so warm and welcoming and we always enjoyed seeing him. We are stunned to learn that he has passed away. Our hearts go out to his family. He was clearly a wonderful man with a warm and generous heart. As for us, Lococo's will never be the same without him.

April 28, 2012

Craig,
I never saw it coming my friend. I don't think anyone did. You were the definition of life, full of it (in more ways than one ;) I am stunned that you're not here in person but you will always be with me in my heart and spirit. We had so many more things to do, dinners to have, golf to be played and poker to play. Not to mention all the projects you always needed help with and of course, beers to drink as well. I'm going to miss you buddy. You were the best!!

Melanie and Family,
So so sorry to hear about Craig's passing. We often talked about ideas on how we were going to get Petaluma to accept us as we were. Being new businesses at the time, it was not an easy task for either one of us. But still, his love and passion for perfection, and people, kept the both of us willing to go on to try and beat the odds. He was a good man, but I guess you already knew that. God Bless you all, Petalumans will never foget.

April 27, 2012

I met Craig through his beautiful wife Melanie Dado-Stammler, one of my sisters', Michelle Grabb-Leonard's, best friends. I liked him immediately. Then three and a half years ago my family lost our brother. It was the first time our immediate family had experienced a death. We were grief stricken and very broken. It was Melanie and Craig who came to the rescue with the beautiful food they so lovingly prepared and served for our brother's "Celebration of Life." The following year we lost Dad. And again, Craig was there with the beautiful food. Then 363 days later, we lost Mom to Cancer. Again, this loving, kind and generous soul came over with the food tenderly prepared. I loved this thoughtful, beautiful man! Now there is just me and my sister left and we never thought we would be experiencing his passing here and now. Craig, may your beautiful soul meet my family in the heavenly spirit world and share a platter of loving gratitude... God Blessed You...

April 27, 2012

I am deeply sadened by this passing, if anyone left us too early it was Craig. His love for his family and life in general makes this passing a very difficult one. I will miss the "Ciao Bella" every week walking through the door. I will miss the little nudges as he showed off his love of the Giants, I will miss the happiness he spread as easily as breathing. My husband Bill and I would like to express our prayers to the family and let you know how special he was to everyone he came in contact with.

April 26, 2012

It is so difficult to wrap our heads and hearts around the fact that you are gone, Craig. We will so miss your zest for life and your bubbly personality. We know you have moved on to another, eternal life. May you be at peace. May your family find the strength to cope with your tragic loss in the coming weeks and months. Così lunghe e sicuri viaggi, nostro caro amico.

April 26, 2012

I met Craig while having dinner at Cafe
Giostra ten years ago. I was with my sisters, we were discussing my upcoming
divorce. Craig was our waiter . . . toward the end of the night, as the crowd thinned and he was finished with his tables; here comes Craig with a bottle of wine . . . he sits down, fills his glass (and ours) and says,
"I've just gone through this myself,
want some advice?" He entertained us
for an hour and it's a night I will always remember.

In the years since, I would see
him at various events and he would ask
how things were . . . how many others
did he befriend? Hundreds, I think.
Craig Stammler.

Like everyone else who has written here, I was grateful for the gift of his charm, wit, charisma, intellect and
compassion. There will never be another Craig in our town. To lose someone "bigger than life" (as he was), to lose someone who shined brighter than anyone else wherever he went, to lose someone who loved (the way he did), is almost unimaginable to those he touched.

My thoughts are with Melanie and his
children, love to you. We are all
sharing your loss.

Craig first and foremost was an amazing father. I cherish the many conversations we had about being parents. An amazing man, husband, friend and chef. Such an incredible and rare friend...unexpectedly showed up at our house with an entire Tiramisu (the best I've ever had), it was my birthday...a gift I have often remembered and always cherished. This is who Craig was and the kind of memories he has left behind.

Craig, Brian, Chris, Vanessa, Mel and Angelina I am so very sorry for your loss. Words cannot come close to accuratly express how special Craig was, I will always remember him and am grateful he walked in my path.

Craig was one of the best friends I've ever had in my life. He would give you the shirt off of your back, regardless of how busy he was or what was going on in his own life. He taught me what it means to be (and have) a generous spirit. He was a funny, gregarious person who had a positive effect on everyone he came into contact with. Wow, jeez, I couldn't believe it Craig. Well at first there's that shock part of it. Then I remembered the jokester that you are and how we always tried to top each other. Part of me wanted to believe that you were just kidding around again. Now that I think of it, I thought that we were even. But you are so cool because you could have trumped me evey time.
God speed.

Craig all I can see is light all over P-Town. Like tiny drops of crystal light cascading from a Heavenly province. It extends to several places from sea to shining sea. Your love reigns. I am deeply saddened for the loss and continue to thank The Holy Father for sharing your character. I am the cry baby and cannot stop, and I had the great pleasure of knowing you face to face perhaps on ten occasions. So little time yet an impact written about over and over. I know you will watch over your loved ones with God. To Melanie and the several family members mentioned God Speed, and know you will be cared for. With love and joy and laughter...

Marlies and I are still just stunned! Marlies is already missing the hug and kiss on the cheek every time Craig would greet us, for as long as we can remember!
I in my thoughts will always remember the picture I took at Melanie & Craig's wedding. Craig on his knee cupping Melanie's grandmother's face in his hands! It spoke to me volumes of the kind and gentle man that Craig was.
We will sure miss you Craig! I don't believe I have ever met someone as kind and gentle at the same time able to walk into any room and put a smile on everyone's face!

I met Craig through my work at Petaluma High School. Craig was the best father and loved his kids so much. If he had concerns he would call right away and get the issue resolved. I always told Craig that I wish all parents were as loving and concerned as he was about his kids. Bella Luma was one of my favorite places. Craig was always so generous when it came to the high school staff appreciation days and contributed his delicious food. Craig, you were one in a million - our community's loss is Heaven's gain. God bless Melanie and your children during this difficult time.

I knew you for too short of time Craig. You brought great laughs and fantastic cooking to our monthly poker games. In our last hand together you coaxed me right into a call with your booming "ALL IN" bet and your sheepish grin. You had me convinced my pair of jacks along with a third on the board was good. I can still hear your laugh as you turned over that straight I didn't suspect and dragged my chips accross the table. Every time I look down at a pair of jacks now I'll think fondly of you and use more caution!

My deepest sympathy goes out to all of your loved ones and many friends. We will all truly miss you and cherish every moment shared.

See you at the next card game Craig. Save me a seat.....

Craig, you were and will continue to be a source of light for those of us that had the distinct privilege of knowing you. Every time we met, irrespective of how many years had passed, you embraced me and greeted me and joked with me like it had been only a week since I was a scrawny kid up to adolescent shenanigans with your sons. You were always generous, always smiling, always making it a point to make others laugh. You will be deeply missed and your loss widely felt, but through Craig and Brian and Chris and Vanessa and Melanie--and the countless others whose lives you touched--your light will live on. See you on that other side...

Craig, my friend. This is the hardest letter I have ever had to write. I stared at this screen for hours before I could write a single word. How do you say good bye to someone so full of life. I would love to say that you were my best friend but you were really everyone's best friend. I have never had such a wonderful time as I had with you over these years. The Ball games, Poker on mondays, cooking side by side with you at Belle Luma, at your house, Gol (which you were really bad at but made it fun anyway). Save me a seat at your table. I'm cooking this time. Love you.

My daughter just called me to tell me Craig passed away. My daughter is now 30 years old and has fond memories of Craig waiting on us at Grazianos when she was a child. She and i feel a great sadness. We loved his sense of humor!

I will always remember Craig for his smiles, hugs and exuberant "Ciao, Bella" whenever we ran into each other. One of the shining stars of Petaluma. We will miss you sorely, Craig. There is no other like you. All good wishes to Melanie and the children.

So many found memories! My favorite "where all my baskets" a joke most of the local business's. We always got food to go and took his baskets and didn't return them until we had about 10! lol Sorry Craig! But I will cherish the last memory. Him throwing his hands up in the air and laughing as if life was grand no matter the issues that may have surrounded him! Mel, we love you and Craig will be missed, but his smile, and voice will always be in our hearts and our memories! (even from Kentucky Ave to Petaluma Ave, I can still hear his laugher an entire street away!

It has always been such a pleasure to be around Craig and Melanie - they were so in love with each other and it showed. My heart goes out to the Stammler family and especially to Melaine. Craig was definitely her soul mate and a one of a kind fabulous man.

I did not know Craig very well. I have seen him around town for over 20 years and talked with him many times. The one thing I did know was that Craig and Melanie loved each other very deeply. You could see that every time they looked at each other. Craig you will be missed. Mel stay close to your good friends. They will get you through this tough time.

I have chills and tears. I loved Craig since he was a server at Graziano's - he was our server the last time we were at Lococo's and always our favorite! I always have had a great admiration of him and how he would drive his kids down to San Francisco to his mom's, work all evening and then drive back down to San Francisco to pick his kids back up, put them in sleeping bags so they could sleep in their beds at home and then do it all over again the next day. I am sooo incredibly saddened to learn of his passing at such a young and vibrant age with so much life to live!! I am so sorry, Melanie and to his children. Craig will be truly missed by many!!!

What a shocking loss! He had a luminance surrounding him. I never saw him down, always smiling or grinning. May his soul rest in peace. Till we meet again.

To an "Old and Dear Friend" Melanie Dado-Stammler. Loving father of Craig Stammler Jr. (fiancée, Courtney), Brian Stammler, Christopher Stammler and Vannesa Stammler. Beloved step father of Angelina Caballero. My heart is heavy with sadness for all of you. As I too will MISS this irreplaceable spirit. People like Craig are "FAR AND FEW BETWEEN" and will be greatly missed by anyone who spent more than five minutes with the man. What I will treasure is that what ever we talked about. good or bad we always parted laughing. That is a true gift. Rest is peace my friend!
