Cherie Jones Obituary

Cherie passed away in Santa Rosa on Friday surrounded by her loving family after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was dearly loved by her husband Bob Jones for 33 wonderful years of marriage. Cherie is survived by: husband Bob Jones; children Justin (Carley) Jones, Jonathan Jones and fiancée Rebecca Hunt; parents Alton (Anita) Vanderford; sister Robin (Dennis) Magee; aunt Doreen Kramer; and grandson Jackson Jones. Cherie was also survived by her huge and very special family of uncles, aunts, cousins, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Cherie was born in Santa Rosa in 1955 to father Robert and mother Anita King. She was blessed with a little sister, Robin, three years later, who she shared a bond with that words cannot describe. When Cherie was six years old her father passed away due to a boating accident in Bodega Bay. This was a very tough time for the family but through this tragedy many special bonds were formed that lasted to the day Cherie passed away. In 1969 Cherie's mother married Alton Vanderford, who raised and continues to love Cherie and her sister as his own blood. Cherie went to Bellevue elementary school, Lawrence Cook junior high school, and graduated from Santa Rosa high school in 1973. During those years Cherie created some wonderful memories and relationships with friends that she held her entire life. In 1974 Cherie was helped out by a longtime friend at a gas station when she was having car trouble. That day was the start of a relationship to the love of her life Bob Jones that lasted 35 years and was blessed with two beautiful children; Justin in 1981 and Jonathan in 1983. Cherie went on to attend Santa Rosa Junior College where she graduated with her associates degree in 1975. Cherie worked for various companies throughout Sonoma County within their Financial and Human Resources departments. Cherie ended her working career with the city of Rohnert Park as an Accounting Specialist. She worked very hard and always gave 100% no matter what the task was, but more then anything she loved the friendships she formed with those she worked with. On September 28th, 2010 after patiently waiting many years Cherie became a grandmother to Jackson Ryan Jones. She was able to be in the delivery room to witness his birth and got to be with him almost every day. Her time with him was to short but every moment she had with him was cherished. Many things were left unfinished in Cherie's life, and at the top of the list was being at her son Jonathan's wedding next May. Even though she will not be there in the flesh we know her spirit will be surrounding us all. Family and friends meant the world to Cherie; she will always be remembered by us for her selfless attitude, huge heart, and her ability to enjoy life to the fullest. Cherie loved to travel and was blessed to see many parts of the world with her family. Some of her favorite vacations were traveling to Italy three years ago with her husband to experience their families heritage, vacationing with the family on various cruises, going on motorcycle trips with her husband and friends, whale watching in the San Juan Islands, the annual Palm Springs trip with Robin and Adrienne, and her favorite place of all was being in Maui with her boys. She also loved spending time on the family boat at Lake Sonoma in the summer. Living in Sonoma County her entire life Cherie built up a great passion for fine wine and loved spending summer days tasting wine at various wineries. Cherie was also a devoted shopaholic; if there was a deal to be had she would find it. She loved going to Ross with her girlfriends and finding the best deals on all the new merchandise. Thank you for sharing your wonderful, gracious life with us, may you now be at peace. You will forever be loved and never forgotten. Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Roses, 1225 Sonoma Ave., Santa Rosa. Entombment to be private. Cherie ~ My very special kind of friend,
Over 50 years our friendship has always been there. From the day we met as our mothers signed us up for Kindergarten at Bellevue Elementary, through all the years since… we have had a special kind of friendship. We knew it was special that day we met, even though we were only 5 years old. We knew we were different from the other kids we went to school with because your mom worked in the office and my mom worked in the kitchen of the very school we went to! We couldn’t get away with much, and when we got caught being naughty, we were sent to our Mothers, not to the Principal’s office.

Our close day to day contact became less through High School, as you went to Santa Rosa and I went to Piner, but the friendship was still there when we did see each other. Then as fate would have it, we spent many great years in the same neighborhood, enjoying that special friendship again, raising our kids together. I love that our children are still special friends as well. I am thankful that we went back to night school together and got our accounting education, then spent years working together. We made a great study-buddy team. So many memories and great times we’ve shared. I always have admired your “Ahh, it’s all good” outlook on life and your beautiful smile. I am thankful we shared a day on the lake together this last summer. I’m so thankful I was blessed to know you all these years.

Even though our paths tended to separate us for periods of time, we always just pick it up where we left off every time we met again. It never was that awkward feeling you sometimes feel with people from the past. Ours was that special kind of friendship, indeed. I will miss you and forever hold you in a very special place in my heart. Until we cross paths again, my friend, I love you.

Bob, Justin, Jonathan, Robin and your entire Family. I knew Cherie thru being Robin's friend for years. Cherie was just like her little sister Robin, always smiling and always finding the good in everyone and everything. I understand your hearts will never be the same, but you will become strong again and your wife and mother and sister, will always be with you.

Cherie,
You will always be in my heart. I loved the way you cared, loved , hugged, and the pretty smell you have. I considered you like my aunt , Cherie. I will always think about you and when I do, my eyes will glitter. I really love you! You always cared about me, with your heart. I always loved when you looked at my manicure and pedicure and you said, "Wow I really love those." When my manicures and pedicures were so bright , you said," Wow those are bright, but I still like them!" I know you loved me with all your heart and I love you the same. I still do and I always will. Harlie and Daisy say woof woof to you! (they miss you too) I really love you with all my heart! XOXOXOXOXO
