She was a wonderful teacher with a great sense of humor. She made my transition from private school to public school much easier. I definitely aimed for teacher's pet because I wanted her respect so much!!! I will never forget when she grabbed someone's braces' rubber bands ( which we had been shooting at the holes in the ceiling tiles, much to her exasperation) and said she was giving up and wanted to see if she could do it! If I had gone into teaching she would have been my model.

Mrs. Laurin was my english teacher at Slater. She was smart, funny and a great teacher. My sincere sympathies to her family. Know that she was loved and admired by many, many students, faculty and friends. Kind regards, Brad Foulger San Isidro, Costa Rica.

Truly one of the nicest teachers I ever had and she truly cared about her students. Those were the good old days at Slater. Nice to know that she lived a good long life.

I write, and believe I write well, because Mrs. Laurin said I could.
She supported me and made me believe I had something to say and taught me just HOW to say it.
She taught me to write about what I know, and she was so right.
I will miss her.
For her family, I send my condolences.
I do confess, she was MY all-time favorite teacher, too.
Sincerely,
Cheryl O'Donnell

Mrs. L. was one of my all time favorite teachers. I loved running into her as I got older; she was always interested in what I was doing and had such great travel stories of her own to share. That look over the top of her glasses is something I'll never forget and will probably mimic. What a great lady! ~~ Julie Threewit

Mrs. Laurin was my English teacher at Slater, and I can remember clearly being nervous about having to do an oral report, and her looking at me with a twinkle in her eye encouraging me to go for it. She was a wonderful woman and an exceptional teacher. God bless her family.

I can picture her peering over her reading glasses waiting for me to stop goofing off so she could continue teaching her class. Her quick wit and sense of humor was priceless.
If this note is written with correct English, then I have Ms. Laurin to thank.
My condolences to the family in this difficult time.

I had Mrs. Laurin in my 7th and 9th grade years at Slater Junior High. She was one of my most favorite and best teachers I ever had for any subject. She knew how to let kids be themselves, but yet keep them focused and challenged at the same time! She always kept me on my toes, as I kept her on hers. My condolences go out to her family! Mrs. Laurin was a wonderful person, teacher, and friend! I am truly honored and blessed to have had her as on my teachers!

Mrs. Laurin was my 11th grade english teacher at Montgomery HS. Wishing Jim and all your family strength and faith in these trying times. I remember your mother as being a very just and fair person. God speed to your entire family.

I met Hilde at the nursing facility where she had befriended my dear friend Dixie, who is 94. When these girls got together they were a riot, the pair shared many life interests and opinions, with just enough bite to spice it all up. I Thank Hilde for being my friend's last "best friend"
even if only for a short time.

I've got great memories of Mrs. Laurin from back at Slater. I had her for 7th grade English in 1972. She really was my favorite English teacher. She was more like a second mom than a teacher, really. That sparkle in her eye when you knew she wasn't buying that excuse you were trying to pass off for not finishing a paper in time... It didn't take more than one try like that to know there was no way you were going to sneak by like that again in the future.
I offer my condolences to her family and want them to know that I'll never forget her.

It seems my brother Michael and I both enjoyed and were inspired by Mrs. Laurin. I can picture her now in front of the class and all of us really paying attention to her. That's hard to do in a class of 13 year olds! She will be very fondly remembered. God Bless her and your family.

To the Laurin Family. I was blessed to have your mom as my teacher two years in a row at Slater. We were a rough crowd, but she always knew how to keep us in line. She kept us on our toes too! I can honestly say that she is the one teacher in my life that I will always remember. Even in the years following when I would see her, she always had that "presence" about her. She was an incredible lady. I am so sorry for you loss. If she was that awesome as a teacher, as a mom she must have been amazing. She will be missed.

I had Mrs. Laurin for English at Slater in the late 70's. She was one of my favorite teachers. She had a great sense of humor and rapport with the students. Looking back, I realized she never treated us like little kids, which is probably why we all responded well to her.
My condolences to her family.

To the Laurin Family , Mrs Laurin was truly my favorite Teacher. In 1969 , She replaced my regular English teacher, (MrsBates, another wondeful women) and through her constant upbeat , vibrant encouragement , I found an incredibly enriching outlet in creative writing. Its hard to explain now , all these years later, but I remember how I felt writing a story and rushing to get it in to her. Waiting for her to read it and give it back to me , always with comments at the top and always in red ink. I've saved most of those strories, I think I'll thumb through them and remember a gracious and kind women and an influential mentor and educater. Michael Bagala

To the Laurin Family: Growing up your mom was always one of my favorite adults in the neighborhood. I remember finishing up a long run on a hot day when I was 18 or 19 years old and your mom hollered out the window at me that I needed to come on in a have a cold beer. I will think of her this football season when I root for the Badgers.
