Ione Severson

Passed away in Santa Rosa, California on Friday, September 17, 2010 at the age of 90. A native of Colfax, Wisconsin, she was a resident of Sonoma County for the past 30 years. Ione is lovingly survived by her niece Karen Boyle (Richard) of Washington; several other nieces and nephews and a host of loving friends. A veteran of the US Air Force, Ione entered the service in September of 1942 as a WAC, the Air Force then being under the Army. In February of 1943, she completed Officers Candidate School and was then sent by the service to Purdue University to complete a course in WAC Personnel Administration. He military career spanned 27 years, and she saw service overseas for four of those years. For all of her career, she served as both a Personnel Staff Officer, and the officer in charge of numerous career assistance and counseling programs offered by the Air Force. She retired in November of 1969, having served during World War II, the Korean War and part of the Viet Nam war with the rank of Major. She was a supporter of women and had a great interest in The National Women's History Project. An animal lover, she supported the Sonoma County Humane Society. No formal services are planned at this time. Private interment will be with other family members in Colfax, Wisconsin.
