Julia Settle Obituary

Scholar and Teacher, died September 13, 2010 at her home in Santa Rosa after a short illness, at the age of 98. She was born on February 28, 1912 in Philadelphia, PA and moved to Santa Rosa in the early 1950's with her family. A consummate teacher, she taught kindergarten at Village Elementary until she retired in 1975. She then joined the Peace Corps, spending two years in W. Samoa where she continued her teaching. Upon returning home, she did numerous community volunteer jobs in Santa Rosa and traveled the world with friends and family. She was a founding member of the Camp Rose Players in Healdsburg, an accomplished musician, singer and actor, and an avid reader who loved "who-done-its". She always found a good challenge in doing crossword puzzles - "What's a seven letter word for..." was a question often posed. She was pre-deceased by husband Rev. Joseph C. Settle, son Peter Michael Settle and great grandson Torin Grotte. She is survived by her daughters Jane Moore (Bill), Pat Nees (Larry), and Linda Green. She is also survived by daughter-in-law Vickie Settle; grandchildren Michael Grotte (Nina), Karen Grotte (Kareen), Suzanne Webb (Daryl), Jennifer Tremont (Michael), Annika Shawn (Matt), and Ryan Settle; seven beloved great grandchildren: Emma, Lily, Erik, Evan, Juliana, Ella and Owen, and a large loving family of relatives and friends in CA, the East Coast, New Zealand and Denmark. In honoring her wishes, no service will be held. Donations may be made to the Women's Cancer Awareness Group, P.O. Box 5115, Petaluma, CA 94955-5115. Jane, Pat and Linda,
So sorry to hear about Aunt Anna. She will be missed. I always enjoyed her Christmas cards each year with her notes about all that was happening in your lives. She was a great lady. Our thoughts and prayers are with you . Love Willy and Dale in Texas.

I had Mrs. Settle for Kindergarten in 1963-64 at Village and will always remember her. She was a wonderful teacher and person. My brother also had her. She will be missed by all who knew her. I wondered what had happened to her and now I know. She is in heaven teaching the angels. Good bye Mrs. Settle.

I'm sad to hear of the passing of such a kind and gentle woman. I had Mrs. Settle for K in 1964 at Village School. Recently I hosted a "reunion" party for alumnus I had attended school with. It was a wonderful reconnective time, and every single comment about Mrs. Settle was a positive one. She had a wonderful influence on many, many lives. What a long and distinguished life!!
