Oh my! I will forever be grateful for Mr. Marzett. He was the sunshine at Piner High for me 1980. I have wished that he could have taught everyone to drive. I remember his advice well. He even came to my home to ask my parents why they wouldn't let me drive. He was wonderful like that. He had the patience and knowledge to even teach a fellow student how a red light means stop as we were driving down 4th Street! We all survived. Because of this man, who stood up for me, I have been a really good driver. I wish everyone could have had Mr. Marzett. He was my hero for caring so much that he stood up for me. No other teacher ever cared enough to stand up for me. A great man!

Sweet Mr. Marzett: Although you became a personal friend, I always called you "Mr. Marzett". I came into your class as a shy sophomore and you never stopped believing in me or seeing my potential. You encouraged me to do things I would not have been brave enough to do without you. I saw you doing the same thing for everyone around me. I'll never forget how fun it was to be the baseball scorekeeper in the spring of 1977, or the fun end-of-season party you had at your home. Looking back, it's hard to believe that you opened your home to a bunch of rowdy sophomores! I still have the graduation gift you gave me and I've always treasured it. I never got to meet Rhett, but I've always known that he is the most precious thing in your life. I have no doubt that you are in God's loving hands now, so I will pray for those you've left behind.

Mr. Market, thanks for making a difference in my life, your dedication to the kids out there where most people would have given up on, will never be forgotten. Thanks for admitting me to Grace in 1995, I would have never graduated in 1996 without your dedication to start school as early as 7am to help some of us make up our credits. You are a true definition of an amazing teacher. Hope your proud of us all now!

Ray Marzett really connected with kids, including many who have personally told me that Ray Marzett was why and how they graduated from Grace High and continued on to successful lives.
Ray was a Big Guy in countless ways. His years at Piner, Grace and other schools leave no shortage of accomplishments, and a treasured trove of fond memories & stories among colleagues and students. I am personally always going to remember Ray’s big smile, hearty laugh, and the friendship and help he always shared with me and others. But mostly I will always remember what he has done and the difference he has made for so many students over so many years.

The First day of Drivers Ed, Mr. Marzett called roll and when he called my name he looked at me and asked was I related to ....? I stated "yes" and he just laughed. He had this amazing laugh that had warmth and comfort. After class he said "girl, dont follow in your brothers footsteps"I am so glad I listened! He was always there for me when I needed him. He helped me see things in a possitive, not negitive. He was a wonderful man and I will miss him greatly. Thank you for sharing him with us. My prayers are with your family!

Thank you, Mr. Marzett. You were an amazing teacher and friend, and you changed my life in so many ways. In 1997, I walked through the doors of GRACE High School 70 credits behind my grade level. Somehow, you saw potential in me to turn it around, and with your guidance, I did. Had you not believed in me, I would not be where I am today, two years away from completing my PhD. To say you made an impact on my life is an understatement. I love you, and I will always remember the fun times that our Grace Family had together.
The last time we spoke, as you were you leaving, I wanted to give you one more hug…you waved it off, and said simply, “Oh, I’ll see you in the bayou.” I’ll be looking. Much love always.

I remember when students would get noisy or annoying he would say "I'm going to reach out and touch someone," and he was big enough to worry even the most stupid of teen boys even though he was a gentle giant. I later ended up being his neighbor, so had the pleasure of knowing him in an adult-to-adult friendship. The world lost a great man.

I'm sorry to hear of Mr. Marzett's passing. He was my Driver Ed teacher at Santa Rosa High School. What a happy, friendly man. We ran in to each other many times over the years; he often came into the office where I work (SCOE) to get materials for his summer school class. My thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. The world is a better place for Mr. Marzett having been here. He was my driving instructor in 1972 at Montgomery High. Oh, the patience and sense of humor he had! He lit up the world with his kindness. I was graced to have been in his presence.

My favorite memories of high school in drivers ed with Mr. Marzett and then being his classroom aid in my junior year... what a genuine person and truly and gift to all people, not to mention quite a crack-up with his lines...he was an understanding man.... God's blessing to his eternal rest and to the comfort of his family.. Julie Buchanan Poirier

Mr. Marzett was one of the greatest teachers I'd had the honor of having instruct me in all my years of school. So many of his lessons have stayed with me all these years later. (over 30). I have him and Mr Rutkowski to thank in part for a spotless driving record. He was a fantastic teacher and a great person, thank you Mr. Marzett!

Mr. Marzett will never be forgotten. So many of us troubled kids would not have made it through high school with out his "WAYS" of getting through to us. I still to this day tell people about him and how he was able to help so many of us and was a major influence at one point in my life. Thank you for all you did for us kids and believing in me!!!!

One of the brightest lights on the Piner Campus…. When you took over GRACE High you helped so many kids, most of these kids, and the teachers around them had given up…. You didn't know how to give up. I will never forget you, and your drive…. I will never forget the first time I saw you, I was scared this man was going to come after me… and you did… Thank You!
My love and warmth goes to the true #1 SON… Rhett thank you for sharing your father with all of us.

Oh Marzette how sad this makes me to know that I will never just run in to you again. Because of you I was able to graduate. At the time didn't seem like such a big deal, but I had you there working with me, and pushing me every step of the way. You were funny, and ALL off us from the class of 2000 have so many great memories!! You became like family to me!! You will be truely missed!! Love you Marzette!
