Ada Isaacson Obituary

Born Ada Cornelia "Corrie" Holtzen on November 17, 1921 to Richard F.J., a Lutheran minister, and Ada M. Holtzen in Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada. A resident of Sonoma County for 70 years, she left this earthly journey on October 21, 2010. Corrie, along with her five younger siblings, was raised in Canada while her father completed missionary work with German speaking communities in both Alberta and British Columbia. She graduated from high school in Vancouver and, shortly after, was offered a position as governess to a family in Berkeley, CA. While working there she met Neal Isaacson. After dating for two years, they were married in a midnight ceremony conducted by her father on August 23, 1942. Corrie, who had relocated to Santa Rosa to join her family, stayed behind while Neal joined the war effort with the Army Air Corps. After the war, they settled in Healdsburg where they raised their two daughters and were dedicated to serving their church, community causes, civic organizations, and their careers. Corrie's passion was people, getting to know each and every one she met as well as possible. She made countless long term friends through her involvements with her church, the Lions and Lioness Club, and her work. Her careers included working for Richey's Jewelry Store during her early years in Santa Rosa, and then 16 years for the Healdsburg Schools as an attendance clerk and home/school liaison. She found her true calling when, in 1970, she and Neal purchased Holtzen Sunset Manor from her mother. For 29 years she devoted her life to providing a gracious home and loving care to the elderly of the Healdsburg Community. She was predeceased by her husband, Neal, in 1999; her daughter, Carol Clague, in 1988; her parents; brothers Paul and Richard Holtzen; and sister Vivian Schneider. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Richard Membrila; sister, Dorothy Kramer; brother Peter Merle Holtzen; sister-in-law, Lorraine Holtzen; five grandchildren Michele, Kristin, Jonathan, Bethany and Courtney; and nine great grandchildren James, Ryan, Mahlon, Baxter, Tula, Allison, Rebecca, Riley and Samuel. The family wishes to thank the staff at Vintage Brush Creek for providing loving care and assistance over the past four years, and Heartland Hospice for the skilled and comforting support in guiding her, and her family, through the past four months. No formal services will be held. Private interment will be at Santa Rosa Memorial park. To honor Corrie's memory, donate generously, volunteer freely, lend a hand to someone in need, keep in close touch with family and friends, and show an elder that they are admired and respected.

What a wonderful and gracious lady! I got to know Corrie at Vintage and loved her. I was always so blessed when she attended my Devotional Services on the first Sunday of the month there. She would just light up when I shared The Word and something would strike a chord with her. I was blessed to serve communion to her a few weeks ago in her room. What comfort to know she is now at rest with the Lord, but she will be greatly missed and remembered always. May God bless her family and friends as they reflect on the special woman that she was. Love in Christ, Judith

Karen, Rick and Family,
The memories we have of your family, and particularly our relationship with Corrie and Neal will remain in our hearts forever.

They helped our family when we relocated to Redwood Hereford Ranch in Alexander Valley on the Russian River. After we were first welcomed into the family of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, we soon found love and friendship with a small nucleous of dedicated Christians who grew spiritually togetherby the grace of God in acquiring land and constructing the original GSLC high on the hill at the edge of Healdsburg, later adding the large worship center. Corrie's dad started that tiny mission church with a dream. The comraderie our group enjoyed can never be matched!

After nearly 13 years, we moved away, but stayed in touch, took a couple of cruises together, and Corrie joined our daughter, Annette and me in an unforgetful trip to Maui. Phone calls, letters and greeting cards traveled back and forth with several brief visits in between as we grew older and fonder.

Your comments of Corrie's life and her many accomplishments is a wonderful expression of your respect and admiration for your mother, and particularly the last paragraph of how we should honor her memory by helping others. That was her way of life! She and Neal took our daughter, Marcia into their home and inspired her to go to college at SRJC for two years. In gratitude, we took them for a fun weekend to Tahoe. We could never repay them for helping her after her high school graduation when all she wanted was to return to her California friends. I'll always think of Corrie as my 'adopted big sister' whom I loved very much.

Our sadness at her passing begins to fade as we realize her past suffering has ceased; yours will in time when we remember her Christian beliefs and heritage. It is comforting to know God's promise that she has now joined His Eternal Church Triumphant where we too hope to join one day. Just think of the magnificent choir we'll have in Jesus' presence! This life was just a practice session by comparison.

Our Sympathy, Prayers and Love, Always,
