Kathy Scherzer Obituary

An avid birding enthusiast, died unexpectedly at her apartment on December 24th, 2010. She was born September 10, 1948, in Washington D.C., to Edward and Eleanor Scherzer. She grew up in D.C., and attended the University of D.C. She later moved to Nevada and graduated from UNLV with a degree in accounting. She eventually settled in Rohnert Park, Ca.. She took classes at Sonoma State Univ. and lived for many years at the Sonoma Grove trailer park, called "the Grove". She later moved to the Copeland Creek Senior Complex, where she died last week. She is survived by her mother, Eleanor Burden; her son, Dennis Scherzer; and sisters Edna, Terri, Brenda, Genie, Jackie, and Jill and their families, including her nieces and nephews. Kathy loved the natural world, and took daily hikes to enjoy birding and observing plants. She loved teaching others about birds and native plants. She was an Audubon member, and a supporter of NAMI. A memorial gathering will be held at the NAMI building at 1300 N. Dutton Ave., Santa Rosa, Thursday December 30, 2010 at 10 00 a.m. Call 530-598-9212 for details. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Audubon Society or to NAMI, the National Association for Mental Illness, Sonoma Chapter.
