Kimberlee Westbay Obituary

52, Kim was a gentle, free spirited woman who never met an animal she didn't like. Always searching for information, she was a voracious reader with a near unquenchable appetite for facts and knowledge. Her life was ended abruptly on Friday morning, September 24, 2010 near her home in Lakeport, CA. Kim was born to Charles William Westbay II (deceased) and Shirley Maye Coulson, February 7, 1958 in Petaluma, CA. She started grammar school at McKinley Elementary, but finished at Valley Vista Elementary. She attended Petaluma Junior High and graduated from Petaluma High school in 1976. After school, she moved to Cotati and worked at a kennel where she adopted a wired-haired German pointer named Reiner. While working at the kennel, Kim handled several show dogs in competition at the Golden Gate Kennel Club Dog Show. She and Reiner also competed in the Outdoor Bird Dog competitions. She later relocated to Lake County where she worked as an Animal Control Officer for several years before moving on to other ventures. Kim was employed with a courier service, where she was able to be "out and about" and not tied down to an office or routine. As she delivered packages to customers, she was able to socialize, meet people and make friends. Kim had a ready smile, a gentle manner and a warm heart. Kim is survived and loved by her Mother, Shirley Coulson; her sister Kristina Lynne Westbay; and her brother, Charles William Westbay, III. She has left behind, a sister-in-law, Pat Westbay; a nephew, Michael; five nieces: Dana, Alicia, Jessica, Michelle and Angela; and was reunited with her nephew Keith on a Friday morning that found this world missing a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a great aunt and a friend. Be at peace, Kim, your trials are over and your rest is well earned... In lieu of flowers, the family feels that it would be Kim's wishes to donate that money to a cause for the care and sheltering of animals. Services will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at: The Elim Lutheran Church, 220 Stanley Street, Petaluma CA. With an opportunity after to meet with family and friends, to share stories, laugh and celebrate the life that was Kim's.

Not sure what to say?

I walked into Animal Control one day when too many good animals had to be put down. Kim was almost crying. I left with an old irascible Dachshund that she just could not put down. Inchworm lived for years and I had mixed thoughts about Kim since I was not Inchworm's favorite person, my daughter was. Kim, I am so sorry.
You were a good person.

I knew Kimmie Puffy Westbay for over 15 years. I worked and played with her. Kim's knowledge of the world around her always amazed me. If I had a question, Kim had the answer. God knows when it is time to move on, but, I wish I could have told her how much she meant to me before she was taken. I will miss her humor, her compassion and her spirit. I will see you at the Rainbow Bridge, Kimmie. Always your friend, Auntie Dee

Kimmie was a childhood friend and neighbor of mine. We had lots of fun together, including 'mothering' kittens of stray cats that would always find their way to our homes. I also recall Kimmie's horse figurine collection and her dog Sadie. I was very saddened to learn of her passing, and wish comfort and peace to her family and friends.

Kimberlee was a customer of mine at Furry Tails pet store. In fact she was the one to deliver my first order when I opened the store 2 years ago. She would always have a story about her dog Jones, and made sure she got him a treat to bring home. I always enjoyed her smiling face and sweet personality. I would joke with her that she worked too hard, with that weathered straw hat in 100 degree heat she would never complain and said she was lucky to have a great job and meet all kinds of people. This is a terrible loss of such a great soul, I will miss her. Give Jones a hug from Furry Tails.

I was fortunate to work with Kim at animal control and most recently we reconnected when she delivered to my place of work. I am stunned and saddened and will truely miss her smile & wisdom. Thank you, Kim. You are missed.

I worked with Kimmie at Lake County Animal Control for many years and had the good fortune of calling her my friend for over 17 years. Although I was her supervisor for a few of those years, she was always my sounding board, my legal advisor and my constant “voice of reason” ! I am such a better person for having known and shared part of my life with her. To Kim’s family, I just want you to know that she had many, many friends who loved her; and I want to thank you for sharing just a small part of your daughter/sister/aunt, with us.
What a good soul, and what a terrible loss for all of us. I will miss you Kim.
