Mary Mikal Obituary

Passed away suddenly on November 28th, 2010 in Lincoln California. Joyce was born April 11, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois. She was a graduate of Marquette University where she met and married Jude Mikal. Jude and Joyce were married for 49 years when Jude passed in 2001. They lived in various parts of the country before choosing Santa Rosa to raise their six children. Joyce left Santa Rosa in 2003 and moved to Lincoln, California. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and loved her job as a teacher's aid at Holy Spirit Catholic School in Sacramento. Joyce's terrific sense of humor was one of her most endearing qualities; she was an outgoing person who never met a stranger. Helping others and volunteering was very important to Joyce, a virtue she passed on to her children. Joyce is survived by her six children: Jude Mikal (Paula) Joyce Mikal-Flynn (Terry), Andy Mikal, Sheila Mikal (Troy Mesa), Keenan Mikal (Patty), and Molly Comeau (Al). Joyce had 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly. She is also survived by her brother Keenan Burns of Chatham, MA. Joyce had a companion on her final journey to heaven, her granddaughter, Paula Marie. A rosary and mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. December 6th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 280 Oak Tree Lane, Lincoln, CA. A memorial service will be held at St. Eugene's Cathedral in Santa Rosa, time and date to be determined. Donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society and The American Cancer Society.

Dear Jude and Family,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I thought your mom was just great. Jimmy and Doug Jr. really liked and respected her. Holy Spirit School won't be the same. She may have been small but she sure was mighty. She had a great presence. I'm going to miss seeing her smile.

You will be missed. You will never be forgotten. You will be forever loved. I am thankful to have been in your life.I always felt welcome in your home and surroundings. Thank you Joyce for always having that smile and laugh. All the soccer games, all the cookies, and all the jokes and most of all, all the love you shared. Ill never forget how mad you could have been when I broke your window with the soccer ball. It wasn't Kennan's fault, but somehow I think you knew that.

My deepest sympathies to all your family. I was saddened to my core when I received the news of your mother's passing. Joyce was one the the most vibrant and positive and faithful persons I've ever known. Joyce Marie - I'm grateful of the times we connected at St. Eugene's the last few years. Your Mom always had a bright smile and a friendly word. I also remember my Dad's 80th birthday where the Mikals, the Byrnes' and the Forsythes had a wonderful gathering. I pray you all find comfort in your own memories, which I'm sure you'll have many. "If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it." Jude, I am especially sorry for your loss of your mother and daughter, I am keeping you dearly in my prayers. May you all be kept in God's loving care as you grieve your loss. My prayers are with you all. Please let me know how I can help you with any arrangements here in Santa Rosa/St. Eugene's. (528-7636) Again, my mother and I send our sincerest condolences.

My sincere sympathy to all the family of Joyce. She and I worked together for many years at the SRJC Training Center. A light has surely gone out with the passing of Joyce. She provided a lot of humor, common sense and boundless energy to all of us. She will be greatly missed.
