Mary Schmidt Obituary

Passed away Friday, November 26, 2010 at Brighton Gardens in Santa Rosa. Born Mary Ellen Robinson in Jacksonsville, IL on March 13, 1918 she is survived by a brother in IL and many relatives and friends. Mary was raised on a farm near Ashland, IL and graduated from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis in 1941. During World War II she spent 6 1/2 years in the Navy Nurse Corp including time on the USS Repose. She came to California in 1948 and never left, spending 21 years as a nurse in San Rafael. Married briefly to Fred Schmidt, who passed away in 1968, she retired in 1972 and moved to her former weekend home on Magic Mountain in Cazadero. Always involved in her community she helped establish the Russian River Health Center in Guerneville and continued volunteering there for 14 years. She joined Mt Olive Lutheran church in Sebastopol in 1974 and attended services there until shortly before her death. Mary travelled the world, taking her last trip in 2004. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and animals. A memorial service will be held on December 4th at 5:30 p.m. at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 460 Murphy Ave., Sebastopol, CA
