Mary Rose Kaye Estes

Mary Rose Kaye Estes obituary

Mary Estes Obituary

Died suddenly Sunday, November 14, 2010 from injuries sustained in a four wheeler accident on the mountain she called home in Potter Valley, California. She was born January 7, 1960 in Ukiah, California and was a lifelong area resident. She was a loving wife, step-mother, daughter, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, and friend. Mary is survived by her husband of 20 years, John Estes; her mother, Mary Anne Kaye; four brothers, Chuck (Judy), Joe (Diane), Leo (Sharlene), and Tom. Three nephews, Ty, Cody, and Justin; stepsons, Michael and Darren; grandson Justin; brothers-in law, Rodney and Norman Estes, and sisters-in-law, Karen Estes and Deborah Carney. She is preceded in death by her loving father, Charlie Kaye in April of 1985. Mary graduated from Ukiah High School in 1978 and attended Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo. She was an active member of St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church. Mary's interests include, first and foremost, her family and friends. She also loved outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, and diving. Mary enjoyed raising many types of animals, something she has done all her life even before and after her years as an avid 4-H'er. She devoted much of her time and energy as a committed wife and business partner to her loving husband John. The quote by H. Jackson Brown, Jr., "Today, give a stranger one of your smiles. It might be the only sunshine he sees all day." was how Mary lived her life and how she will be affectionately remembered by all who knew her. A Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Eversole Mortuary, 141 Low Gap Road, Ukiah, CA 95482 with Father Raul Lemus officiating. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, 900 South Oak Street, Ukiah, CA 95482 with Father Sean Rogers officiating. Burial at the Potter Valley Cemetery will immediately follow. Following the cemetery service a luncheon will be held at the corner of Main Street and Eel River Road in Potter Valley. Those who wish may contribute salads or desserts. "Friends of the Community" are sponsoring the balance of the barbecue. With you my heart will always stay. With you my thoughts will be every day... Arrangements are under the direction of : EVERSOLE MORTUARY IN UKIAH, CA.

I think I was first introduced to Mary Kaye back in the early 80s by my friend Manny Mendez. I liked Mary right away because she was a tomboy like me, vivacious, and full of energy. I've had a lot of laughs with Manny over the years when he'd talk about Mary Kaye, and it was always a pleasure when I'd run into Mary herself.... She was a great woman who lived a geat life!! It's unfortunate Mary is gone, because she had a lot of life still in her.

I have just this evening learned the heartbreaking news; I am so sorry this happened to Mary. To John, to Mrs. Kaye, and to Mary's brothers, my heart weeps with yours. Mary was one of those special people who could make fast friends with anyone, anywhere--she did just that with me at a track meet in junior high and it didn't matter to her that we came from competing schools. We went on to share many memorable times in 4-H and high school, which at this moment are rushing forth. I last saw Mary at our 2008 Ukiahi reunion, where we sat together for dinner; true to form, Mary smiled radiantly and chatted amiably all evening. Thank you, Mary, for the gift of your friendship. God bless you.

To all of Mary's family and friends, I pray for healing and God's love to keep you strong. My fondest memory with Mary is when she said jump in the toyota, let's head to the mountain top, and hang "bear food". I was a city girl at the time, she brought me back to life right after I lost my dad, day before my birthday. And she had the best birthday cakes and cards. She will forever be in my heart and missed dearly... RIP Mary, "trade ins not accepted".

I will always be glad that I knew such a beautiful person. Mary and John would come to my Video Store once across the street from Hoppers and share a smile and a laugh. I hadn't seen Mary & John in years (after I sold the store). Until just last year at Club Calpella where we quickly caught up. If I could summarize Mary's beautiful spirit in one word to me it would be"Genuine"~Mary you are so loved and I know you will save a spot in Heaven for all your loved ones. My sincere condolences to John and Family ~ God Bless you.

Mary, I met Mary, John and Norm Estes up at Delevan Hunting Refuge. The weekend was always most enjoyable when Mary was there. She kept the camper warm, the food good and the laughs rolling. She was very adventurous and a great story teller! I will very much miss Mary. Like an aunt, like family. My thoughts go out to you John. I hope you remember the blessing it has been to be with her, and stay strong. Mary would want that. Love you Mary, John and Family
