Richard Hollingsworth Obituary

Died October 1, 2010 in Grass Valley California after a long illness. Born in Petaluma on August 14, 1923 to the late Pearl and Harry Hollingsworth. Richard attended Petaluma High School until he joined the Navy in December 1941. He was a Boatswain's Mate and served on many vessels, the last being the USS Starlight in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He was honorably discharged in January 1947. He worked as a carpenter for many years. After retiring, he and his second wife Orlean moved to Grass Valley where they lived for 32 years. Richard married Donna Lemieux (Ozolins) in 1951 and had two children, Cynthia Hollingsworth Oliveira and Susan Hollingsworth Armanino (Joe) / Anderson (David). He also raised Mary Ann Sampietro Hofland (Donald) who was Donna's daughter from a previous marriage. Preceding Richard in death besides his parents were his wife Orlean and grandson Nathan Oliveira. Kevin Kindlespire, a grandson, was a devoted caregiver to Richard and Orlean for many years. He is also survived by his daughter Cynthia Oliveira; brother Robert Hollingsworth of Bellingham, Washington and sister Ruth Waltrup of Ventura, California. Grandchildren, Frankie Oliveira, Courtney Armanino Trejo (Mike), Joey Armanino, David Anderson; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. There was a memorial for Richard at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California on Friday November 5, 2010. Attending were many family members and friends.
