Richard Holly Obituary

83, Reno, NV, passed peacefully at his home in Reno, NV on December 27, 2010 after a long illness. Dick was born on January 15, 1927 to Richard and Hope Holly. In his younger days, he was a snappy dancer, and always looked so sharp in his tux jacket and bowtie. He and his sister June spent many an evening at the Palladium in LA dancing to the music of the big bands. His charming ways, bright blue eyes and fancy dance steps won Anna over. They were to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in February. Dick lived in Santa Rosa after his discharge from the US Army and worked in the optical field for many years. Dick was an ardent and talented trap shooter. "25 straight" was not unusual for him, and he won more than a few competitions. He loved Sonoma's "Valley of the Moon" trap club and continued to shoot in Reno until just a few years ago. His passion for trap shooting was exceeded only by his passion for napping in the recliner. Molly the Chihuahua, who just happened to share the same passion, always joined him. As hard as he tried, his gruff exterior never fooled his family or friends. His quick smile and visible joy at sharing his perfectly cooked BBQ steaks always betrayed him. In addition to his wife, Anna, he is survived by daughters Lydia Holly (Rand), Alexis Shattuck (Rob); brother Dan Holly (Barbara), sister June Knight; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Richard, mother Hope, sister Sarah and brother David. Memorial services will take place at the Santa Rosa Memorial Chapel on Friday, January 7th at 10:00 a.m., followed by a reception at the St. Rose Parish Hall. Dick's wishes were that memorial donations be made to the Parkinson Disease Foundation or the NRA. We will miss Dick dearly.
