Teresa Okey Obituary

Teresa Okey peacefully departed with the angels on Thursday, January 26, 2012. She went to dance again with her husband, Fred, and reunite with her beloved son, Fred Jr. Teresa was born in Buncrana, County Donegal, Ireland, on April 11, 1919, the youngest of nine children. Her parents were Charles and Mary Ann McLaughlin. Teresa left Ireland after school to work in London, then she went on to Germany to work in Civil Service. It was in Germany that she met the love of her life. At that time, Fred was a major in the USAF. He was a handsome, Irishman from Illinois. After a whirlwind courtship of six months, Fred and Teresa married and returned to the States to travel to many Air Force bases. Teresa and Fred had six children at six different Air Force locations. They included South Carolina, New York, Illinois, Hawaii, and Georgia. Teresa's most cherished role was that of mother. Her children feel truly blessed to have been given the best mother in the world. Teresa and Fred enjoyed forty-nine years of wedded bliss until Fred's passing in 1996. Teresa is survived by Mary Erin Gudjones (Michael), Charles Okey (Janice), Donna Merritt (Gary), Michael Okey (Debbie), and Patrick Okey (Kim). Her beloved son, Fred Jr., predeceased her in 1979. Teresa also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Sean Okey, Kyle Okey, Shannon Okey, Dawn Merritt, Nicholas Merritt, James Okey, Steven Okey, and Stephanie Halderman. She had two great grand children, Sage Bauer and Shayla Halderman. Teresa has left her family with a legacy of love, strength, and commitment. I will always remember your dear mother as my favorite aunt. She made such an impression on me as one of the sweetest souls and kindest women. She was both strong and gentle and all of my cousins were so blessed to have her for a mother. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of loss, but hope that you find comfort in knowing that she has gone home and is with the love of her life, your father, again. A love like theirs is rare and now has come full circle. My love to you all, you will be in my thoughts and my heart. With heartfelt sympathy, Liz.

Many prayerful thoughts sent to all of the families. It is so hard to say goodbye to such a cherished mom. I certainly hope your mom and dad will share in an Irish toast with my mom and dad. The world is just so different without them. May God hold you all in the palm of his hand, until you meet again! Hugs,

Dear Okey Family

I absolutely adored your mom and feel blessed to have known her. She was always so very sweet, warm and happy. I can only imagine the dancing going on in heaven with Fred! I'm sure there is already a Heaven Irish Club formed. God Bless You All!
