Todd Nance Obituary

Born January 23, 1964 in Dallas, Texas, died at home in Santa Rosa, California on Saturday, September 25, 2010, surrounded by family. This ended his courageous battle with a rare form of cancer, and began a new adventure. Todd is survived by his wife Kristen Nance; his father and mother, Doyce and Judy Nance; his two sisters, Doyce Ann Straetker and husband Jeff, and Dana Nance; and his dogs, K.T. and Lucy. Although Todd's resume listed software engineering as his profession, his true passion was guitar building. Todd was a renaissance man, enjoying the studies of music, movies, history, travel, woodworking, food and Belgian ale. He will be remembered for his smile, especially the mischievous grin, and his love of learning. Todd's faith in God and his positive spirit guided him through over two years of chemo and hospital visits. Although he will be missed, it is Todd's wish that all that knew and loved him honor his courage and will to live by enjoying every minute that is given, especially the challenges. Todd's family would like to thank the staff at the Kaiser Oncology unit for their incredible support in helping Todd to prolong his life, and Memorial Hospice for making Todd's last days as comfortable as is possible in trying circumstances. There will be a memorial service in Texas, Todd's native state, as well as California, his adopted state, but plans are pending. Donations in Todd's memory may be given to: Memorial Hospice 821 Mendocino Ave Santa Rosa, CA 95401-4805 or www. Livestrong.org

Kristen,

I am sorry to hear about Todd. I was just bragging to my wife about the Flying V he made in wood shop at Pearce. When I did a search I found out about this(Sunday night), to which I am truly sorry to hear. He was a very gifted individual and I am sure he is crafting our Lord the finest guitar that can be made.

I was in shop class with Todd and remember well the first guitar he made. In fact, all these years later whenever I see something anything related to creating instruments I remember Todd and the guitar he crafted in wood shop. My sympathies go out to Todd's family - he was taken much too soon.
