Walter Duckworth Obituary

75, died December 18, 2010 at his home in Santa Rosa after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born Febuary 5, 1935 in Paso Robles, the son of Walter and Minnie Duckworth and lived most of his childhood in Priest Valley, CA. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and earned a BS in forestry from Berkeley in 1962. Tony worked for the California Department of Forestry for 33 years, finishing his career in Sonoma County. He was very active as 4-H leader in Sonoma County in the '70s and '80s and in the Cursillo community. Tony and Sonja especially enjoyed traveling in their fifth wheel and vacationing in Hawaii. Tony always had numerous projects in progress and was officially the family "futzer." He loved his entire family very much, especially his three daughters. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sonja; three daughters, Wendy (Fred) Streitz of San Ramon, M'Liz (Kurt) Nelson of Fresno and Valerie Duckworth of Santa Rosa; five grandchildren: Brandon and Chelsea Howard, Devin Nelson and Jessica and Rebecca Streitz; three nephews, Scott, Will and Luc Taylor; and two nieces, Karen Petit and Deborah Lauchner. Services will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in King City, CA at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 4th. A gathering will also be held in Sonoma County at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Memorial Hospice, 821 Mendocino Ave., Santa Rosa, CA 95401 or to one's favorite charity. SANTA ROSA MORTUARY EGGEN & LANCE CHAPEL, 545-3747

I worked w/Tony many, many years ago on a couple of forest fires; his love and affection for his wife and family was amazing. I also remember his incredible sense of humor.
