Edward DERMOTT Obituary

DERMOTT, Edward Born in San Francisco January 8, 1925 - Died September 29, 2014 Ed Dermott, a widely known and loved attorney from Santa Rosa, died Monday. Ed was a proud UC Berkeley Graduate who earned his JD at Hastings College of Law in 1954 after serving during World War II and retiring as a Major from the U.S. Army Reserve. He had a long and distinguished legal career beginning with the law office of DeMeo & DeMeo in 1954. After beginning his own practice, he then was Counsel to Sonoma County Medical Association from 1957-1989 while serving as City Attorney for Sebastopol for 29 years. Ed was the First City Attorney of Cotati, as well. He was active in many organizations including: President of Sonoma County Bar Association, First Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Sonoma County Community Hospital which he served for over 13 years, President of Junior Achievement of Great Sonoma County, President of Santa Rosa Kiwanis Club, Director of the Sonoma Council of Boys Scouts of America, Chairman for North Coast Rehabilitation Center, President of Sonoma County Shrine Club, Founder and Past Director of Sonoma National Bank, President of the Reserve Officers Association, Member of SIR Luther Burbank, President Wild Oak Saddle Club, and Trustee of the Trailblazer Foundation. Besides being an accomplished private aircraft pilot and doubles tennis player, Ed enjoyed horseback riding, snow skiing and water skiing. Ed loved to travel and he visited almost all 50 states and traveled extensively internationally. Ed was previously married to Bernice (Nicy) Thompson Dermott in 1970. She predeceased him in 2007. Ed married Gloria Wilson Dermott in 2010. They shared a wonderful marriage filled with love, travels and many friends. Ed's family includes: Ann Dermott, Jean and Larry Darbonne, Chris and Darlene Pepper, Cindy Pepper Hansen (deceased), Ed and Melinda Berland and his grandchildren Alisha, Wesley, Noelle, Akaisha, and Atasha, along with their spouses and many great grandchildren. He was also a loved father and grandfather to Gloria's family as well. The celebration of Ed's life will be held October 23, 2014 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Wild Oak Saddle Club. In lieu of flowers please give to Hospice or the charity of your choice.

Worked with Ed over years in the defense of medical negligence claims in which he was very helpful to me & my law firm---sorry to hear of his passing---not surprised to read of his many activities & contributions to the welfare of others.

We did not have the Good fortion of knowing Mr. Dermott, but feel very lucky to currently own their previous home on Raymonde Way.
